Prince Charles in 1979 on a City Cycle that I discovered in a garage

Hi guys

Thought some of you may like to see this great find of mine

But firstly I rediscovered my own racing bike from 1984 that has been unused since 1986, a 10 spd Kalkhoff Tristar that I bought new for £105 saved up from my paper round money of £4 a week (that was 6 months wages..... )

I must get it out and dust it off, but that saddle looks.......

Earlier in the week I got called out to a garage with a floor problem.

On opening the garage door I saw a small bike on one side and asked the home owner about it as I was sure I had seen it before (as a youth)

She told me that her son had built it in 1979 and won Young Engineer of the Year Award, and showed me a photograph and press cuttings of Prince Charles on it, although it was currently missing the original (Royal) saddle.

Using standard cycle parts and alloy box tubing it was designed to be lightweight and easy to assemble, and cheap (I think it was £30) although it was not folding, would have been great if it was! It was on TV and in newspapers/magazines back in the day how strange that I remembered it

There was also an old BSA racer in there at the back, some nice finds for the day

Sadly no, it is a family keepsake, I said it should be restored to its former glory

Very nice! I'd rather see the old bumbler promote alternative bikes rather than the quackish alternative healthcare stuff he pushes now...
