N+3...Additions to the Family

Three new additions to the family...a 1974 Schwinn Sprint, 1976 Schwinn Superior and a 1978 Schwinn Volare...the Superior rounds out my collection of the welded Schwinns...to go with my 72 Sports Tourer and 73 Super Sport. The Sprint and Volare are simply rather rare Schwinns that I added to my collection

1974 Schwinn Sprint - bought the frame/fork and the bits you see on it...working on putting together all original for it...yes, I know it will be quite heavy when I get done with original, but love that crooked seat tube!

1976 Schwinn Superior - got this one off Craiglist...and it turned out better than expected! Only $150 plus $50 for shipping...I think that it was an ok deal. Only issue with it, other than dirty and patina'ed is that I have to have the wheels rebuilt...a few broken spokes...and that is beyond my current level of restoration...but...I think it is worth it. Stripping and cleaning while the wheels are under construction...

1978 Schwinn Volare - this is the one where the packaging was bad...if you saw my thread on that...the guy agreed to refund over 1/2 of the purchase price, so, I decided to take him up on it...as these are, I think, pretty dog gone rare...and particularly in my size! It does have a dent on the top tube, which would normally do it in for me...but...again...rarity...and most of my money back made me say ok...what the heck...and...if it really bugs me...I can make the frame a wall hanger, sell off the Dura Ace kit for the rest of my money back...and then keep looking for a great one...yes, this one also needs new shoes

And...just so you have my entire Schwinn collection...here are pics of my Sports Tourer, Super Sport and Ontare...besides...we all like to show off...and we all like bike porn!

(@Flog00 does such great work and takes such great pictures!)

Yes, a bit dirty...and a bit large...

Love this bike!

N+3. That sets the bar mighty high for the rest of us.
You took the fun out of joking about the seat tube on the Sprint. I have a Hetchins and a Bob Jackson with a seat tube that's got a funky shape, so I would have put my foot squarely in it.

Seriously though, looks like three fun, manageable projects you've got there. Looking forward to the end results.

You have more Chicago steel up there than a Chess Records reunion tour.

Ahrrgh! Too bad about that Volare! The one actually worth having is the one that gets effed up in shipping? There is no God.

I passed on a Schwinn Sprint ($66, rusty, at an antique shoppe) exactly like the one you posted here, invoking my "If I'm not going to ride it, I'm not buying it" rule. Sorta-kinda regret that decision, but a rare, brief moment of sanity on my part.

Ontare paint is the cat's pajamas. Nice overall collection Doug.

The Volare, any chance that is from Ann Arbor/Whitmore Lake Mi? Looks familiar, been advertised forever.

Too true about the Volare...but...at least I have a "representative" one...who knows, maybe I will run across another that is pristine (dependent on life span!)...

I too have a rule like that...for a bike to truly be "part of the collection"...I have to ride it 16 (or more) miles. Why 16 miles? It is one round trip on my local Greenway...

BTW...my name is Duane...not Doug...although being a Doug for a while could be a good thing!

The Volare is actually from California...

Do you have a link to the one in Michigan?
