need world tour info

A few years ago , my brother-n-law bought a Schwinn World Tour for me for cheap at a yard sale. Since then I have ridden it every day and I love it. It was all original right down to the s pattern tread but the 3 speed internal hub was gravel so, since my bike shop couldn't restore the hub or locate a restored one I had them use as much of the original wheel and make it a one speed.
It says Chicago on the headset so I know it is from before 1984.
Also on the headset is the number "60639"
and on the drop out is another number "g048"
I turned down $500.00 for it last summer because it is tough like a hybrid but almost as quick as a pencil tire street bike and it looks good.

Here's all the World Tourist catalogs:

Schwinn World Tourist

You turned down $500 for it? That was a REALLY REALLY REALLY good offer.

60639 was Chicago's zip code for the Schwinn offices. You should have taken the money offered. A picture would help. Roger

You sure there isn't another number following that dropout date code? Usually its "G" plus four digits - first two the month, last two the year. The "G" indicates a frame came from Giant - a Taiwanese company. Not as nice as the Panasonic frames, but for Schwinn, still a step forward. One thing you can say about them - with all that steel chrome cleaned up, they sure do shine nicely in the sun.

The mystery continues, looks like the '81 or '82 model, but all in the catalogue you sent the link to have derailleurs. As far as the money, the bike was a gift so I'm happy to put it to good use. Thanks for the info tho'. It's nice to see the catalogue.

No more numbers, maybe they just didn't stamp it correctly. probably should have been G0481 or 2 from the looks of the catalogue. Interesting that it is a Giant frame. I've had 3 Giant hybrids and really liked them, the first was stolen, the 2nd survived getting hit (side-swiped by a truck) but didn't survive running over a dog that had pulled up the stake it was chained to and ran out in front of me and the third was swamped by a hurricane (Ike) Thank you for your help.
