Sound Cycles is the "vintage shop" I know of, which seems to be open when the owner wants but what a nice collection. You can visit one of our several co-ops. There are very few swapneets.

The Bike stand in Long Beach is worth a look. Often a number of consignment bikes there. C&V is pretty scattered in Southern California. A few shops have vintage bikes on display but no one is making a living off them.
There is a shop on Colorado near the Pasadena / Sierra Madre border. Euro Asia is connected to a shop out off the 210. Unfortunately lots of driving required.

    Mr. T,
I have not found any great places to buy vintage stuff here in Los Angeles, the swaps are small and the one combined with motorcycles is hit or miss (May 24th) long beach stadium.
I did hear about the bicycle stand in long beach and went there once...there are a few consignment bikes the and it is a walk down memory lane but the stuff is pricey and sometimes the folks there have to call the owner for price info and if he's not available, well....kind of hard if you are out of town. I have not been back since, maybe its better now.
My advice is, if you are going to travel get up early and do it all in one day and enjoy the time with your lady and her family....LA freeways are brutal and you can spend a lot of time just traveling 30miles at the wrong time of the day. Good luck

I was thinking this over, and ALL the good shops back 40 years ago, are gone or have changed ownership, focus.
Some spaces are still a bike shop, but that is about all they have in common with the past.
Aged out owners, rent and the need to make a living.

John's Pasadena, gone, Hans Ohrt, Gus Dandos, Roger Kemp, Bicycleville, Beverly Hills Bike Shop, gone.
    Santa Monica Bike Shop, gone.
Marina Del Rey Bike Shop, gone, Helen's still exists but Mod.

Bikeology, sold off the name to others, renamed Supergo, then much later sold off to Performance. Expanded greatly in the 70's with mail-order.
Alan Goldsmith is smart, treated it like a business. Walked away well off.

    Maybe Montrose Bike shop?

Velo Pasadena on Colorado boulevard has a bunch of vintage road bikes on display for you to drool at. I don't know if any of them are for sale. They also have a glass case full of vintage Campy components including a bunch of C-record parts.

With the dearth of C&V shops in a HUGE region like southern California, does this mean the seemingly robust C&V marketplace is enabled only through eBay?

Is the widespread appreciation and participation in everything C&V enabled only through the internet?

If so, that is very interesting all by itself.
