I also collect Bitong, or brush pots. That I collected while in China. They're scattered all through the house, most in use.
Three of my oldest ones. From the Ming dynasty.

Trumpets and cornets:

1951 Conn 80A in almost perfect original condition. Beautiful engraving, combination satin and gloss silver plate, and a gold wash bell. They literally don't make stuff like this anymore. Didn't come with a case, so I gutted a modern one and remade the interior for a custom fit.

1965 King Silver Flair 1055T. Wasn't looking for one of these, but too good of a deal to pass up! Dizzy Gillespie and Harry James both played these late in their careers.

1958 Reynolds Contempora Leonard Smith 40S. I spent a boatload of money getting this restored, but worth every penny. My daily player - quite rare and my pride and joy.

I've also got a few others: A '35 Conn 80A, a '69 Reynolds Emperor cornet, and a '70s Schilke trumpet.

Long before I was into bikes, I was into guitars and basses. I don't play out as much as I used to, so the "collection" has been pretty much static since the early 2000s.

And then the stereo gear. I started on the stereo gear when I was in the Army, I kind of gave up on it until a guy gave me a Pioneer SX-838. It sounded SO much better than my 1990s Surround unit. So I started acquiring...

My wife and I have lots of 12" records.

I also have a NYC subway map that came off the wall of a subway station in 1947. I love this, and it is displayed in my living room. I'll post a picture of it later.

Carbide cannons are pretty cool too. Not sure how detailed/faithful the reproductions are, but they are loud as all get-out.

Even better... a nice piece of exhaust pipe, maybe 2' long. Hammer one end tight and weld it up. Burn a touch-hole thru it near the closed end. Squirt a nice, neutral mix of H2C2 down the pipe. Light the torch, make a really long flame and bring it to the touch hole... Ugly as all get-out, but it sure makes a bang, and when the boys in blue cruise thru the neighborhood looking for the perp, the guilty one just looks like he/she was doing a bit of car work!

Not surprising all you C&Vrs would have all these wonderful collections! Really fun to see! Actually they make me a little crazy!

@rootboy Yours really target many of my interests. For not a serious collection that's a REALLY NICE set of CaseXX ... NOS ...Sweet! Those awl hafts are very nice. The planes are fantastic! I have a feeling you have more early and modern wood working tools. You do leather too right?

If you don't mind I'm going PM you for some advice on sash planes to use to cut some new mullion. I have a lot of 100+ year old sash (2 basic profiles) I am repairing and now I am to the ones that need new pieces. I am having a little trouble getting my head around the cuts. I could use some help targeting what to look for.

I am living vicariously here. No collecting for me other than a few bicycles... and a few coins

Ed. Cool to know, but I hear only marginally better than a stone out of my left ear as it is. Think I'll leave those hijinx to younger ones.

I have a small number of long tubes mostly with grooves, some are smooth. Few are short. Some are bonded to each other. One has three bonded tubes with two smooth and one grooved. The oldest is from 1893ish with most dating between the 1930's to 1964 with a very few newer than 1964. By far most of them are manually operated. They were made in the USA and in multiple European countries. Most have been modified by individuals or for individual preferences. That is the way it was in those times. In those times you could actually talk about them freely without judgment or censorship. They were as American as Motherhood and Apple pie, often admired for their beauty in function and appearance and nearly every man wanted at least one of each smooth and grooved, short and long.

lol - took me a while to figure out what SJX was talking about. Wouldn't it be easier to describe them as projectile dispensers?

Hi, Peugeot Mongrel. Whoa! Just because I have all those tools doesn't mean I know how to use them.
But I think if it were me, I'd cut new mullions on my router table. Presuming you can find the proper profile cutter, that is.
Unless you're determined to do them by hand, with a plane. In which case, you're talking about something way past my knowledge level.
Sorry. And yes, I do a bit of leatherwork too. Dabble in all sorts of stuff.

He's going to have to wear wool and not synthetics if he expects to collect any in 14 days.

Of course I wear wool! Isn't this the C&V forum? Purge the lycra wearers, I say!

That's OK Just taking an new & accurate look at the profiles answered most of my questions.
Besides I need an excuse to get a few of those cool old planes.
My router table is a POS and I really have been thinking a good sharp plane might work really nice.

If you have a soft spot for pocketknives you might like these first generation Fighting Roosters.

GB,
Impressive stash there, is it true that the older tube amps do have a better sound quality, can you still repair the amps, how would you find tubes if one goes bad.....or is that the next collection that you are going to share with members?
Just as a side, for those uninitiated could you share the meaning of the hand gesture that is in the shadow?
P.S. still playing twister?
Regards, Ben

Fly rods

Bamboo, but I also have a sweet tooth for nice graphite.

Fly reels as well and I am a big fan of Hardys.

You might try Lee Valley, otherwise a site devoted to old houses, carpentry, and the like. There are people who will cut blades to the required profile.
