Mercian Triple conversion
After building this bike up I figured it was built weird. Long 41 inch wheelbase coupled with some Weinmann concave rims...Super Record was a little stupid...So I converted it to a triple. I have been waiting for a frame worthy of this drivetrain.

nice build, red and tan color scheme always works well.
i've always thought that derailleur was pretty cool |

btw, that volkswagon beetle doesn't belong on that shelf

It looks great. You need screws for the dropouts though.

@jjhabbs - So, how do you like the way it shifts & rides so far? I'm thinking of going this exact route with my Grandis. I have the RD and everything else save the triplizer chain ring for the crank set. How do you like it compared to what you had before, shifting-wise?

Its like driving a 57 Chevy stock and expecting it to perform well. I set it up to be vintage/ period correct and gosh it looks cool doesn't it. The super Record had shifted well for what it is. The Rally is a little slower shift. Surprisingly the Super record front derailleur shifts well with the triple. Keep in mind that the granny isn't very small.. Its a 36/45/54. Happy building..lets see pics. |
Very nice bike -- everything from the color scheme to the gearing.
Anyone who wants a lower granny gear can easily substitute a larger freewheel, which that derailleur should handle well, but I would probably use about the same gear range you did, but perhaps in a half-step-and-granny. |
