Thanks for the link. Nice to know he could get help on his bike, or anyone can, at Lake Geneva. (wish I could ride there)
I'm not a fan of him, or any politician, but here are my thoughts on the whole Sec of State bike thing....
1-Riding a Serotta isn't exactly putting on airs or anything. He could be a lot higher upscale, and I'm glad he's riding a US-made frame.
2-Exercise is a very good way to maintain mental acuity, balance perspectives, etc. He may be a better servant of his country for it.
3-It's good to get away from the grind and be able to think clearly, with little else to interfere.
4-The article mentioned he took a 15-minute walk with Iran's negotiator. This is always good. Much can be accomplished during such things.
5-It's a shame, when his RD buggered, that he couldn't stay at the shop and talk bikes. That's one thing we can do that he can't.
6-If I was in that business (cycling stuff), I'd be trying to sponsor him and the security team. Helmets, sunglasses, kit, bikes, you name it. Great exposure.
7-The purpose of his visit, Iran, has a population that likes bikes. So does the US. And wrestling, I might add. Too bad those constituents can't communicate.
8-I won't live to his age, but if I did, I'd like to be riding. Of course, it would be a Wraith or an Ironman.
9-Politics and class warfare aside, if I had his wealth, and influence, and juice, I'd ride around Lake Geneva, too.
10-It has to suck when you have a demanding job, busy schedule, and you can't get on your bike. Many of us can relate.
10-Despite how I may/may not disagree with policy, etc, I wish him a speedy recovery and successful negotiations, somehow, some way.

A totally well put together statement...I concur (although I am a bit of a fan of his...)...well said Robbie!

Given who he is and the security around him, how did a curb get through the security and space buffer?

Regardless of everything else (and what else is there other than everything else?) it is a great statement to the world, or at least to the US, that cycling can be taken seriously.
No politics intended with this post.

Still learning
I realize everyone has their hobbies, but something tells me if you are a high ranking US statesman on official business, those hobbies probably should take a back seat your job. Especially so if your job, which you are now not performing, is meeting on some rather touchy world issues as one of the most important figures in the American government.
+1 on riding a bike built in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Glad the crash wasn't worse. I figured he would ride an American made bike and also glad to see the Serotta. He is a guy who could easily get a new bike every year, and I figured it would be the generic blinged out Madone, nothing against Trek.

If the orange titanium Serotta can't be fixed, I hope he still has his backup Serotta (that I like better).

As I recall, a former Commander in Chief used to do quite a bit of mountain bike riding on a Texas ranch (sometimes with a guy who won the TdF a few times - not). Everyone needs some R&R sometime. If Kerry's leg bothers him after it heals, maybe he could take up painting.

It can be done, if you stay active (and lack any genetic or physical limitation). I got a person (Tim) into cycling 2 years ago who hadn't ridden a bike since he was in his teens. He has been riding with me for 2 years (admittedly a much more casual rider than Mr. Kerry, since we ride hybrids). Tim is 77, and is having a ball!

I find it funny BF has an over 50 section. There's a few I know in there 70's who could kickazz ride over some 20 y.o.'s. And I'm not talking leisure rider 20 year olds. Last year while out on an organized century ride, I rode along with a fellow who I thought was in his young 60ish. Riding modern and was doing great. At a rest stop, he casually mentioned was an octogenarian but forgot his actual age...lol.
Late in the news. A 92 y.o. woman (cancer survivor) completes a half marathon 7+ hr. Started running when she was 76.

Looks like his security rides either Cervelo's or BMC's, from the pics I've seen.
Kind of wondered about the "carbon footprint" of riding a bike surrounded by a motorcade, but exercise is exercise, some just more expensive than others.
I guess when you get to a certain position, you can say "I want to go ride a bike" and a bunch of people say "how high?" Was the same w/W.
Bet the cell phone rings off the hook.
I like that he's on Serotta.
Wonder how many miles the bike has flown?
Wonder if he does his own maintenance?
Did he pick up those wheels in a bike shop, and some guy say, "you'll be faster on those.......?"
Why orange?
Does ISIS know he's out there?
What is the code name for the SoS on a bike?
Where does security carry their weapons?
Who's got the spare, and who knows how to use the CO2?
Inquiring minds, all that....
No seat bag.
There's got to be a guy along who is lovin' every minute of it, just waiting for a flat.

Are those tires run flats?
is the bike bulletproof?

MOD NOTE: We would prefer to leave the threads about this incident in the forums they were started in, however, the politics MUST stay out of it. There is a specific forum for that, and this ain't it! Thanks.
