I had a bear sighting on a Sunday morning ride a few years back-lumbered across the road about 50 feet in front of me. I thought it was a hangover hallucination until I saw the tracks.
At Yellowstone one summer a ranger told us 'I can always tell when folks have been to Yosemite. The first thing they ask is "where are the bear boxes?"'

Living 40 odd years in a fairly isolated part of the Canadian Shield I've encountered black bear, moose, foxes, lynx, deer, snapping turtles, wolves, coyotes and even a cougar once. All except the cougar were pretty close encounters. None of those critters were as dangerous as the average city driver though.

I've never come across a bear in the wild, but as a child riding the dirt roads and logging roads in the Black Hills outside of Custer, SD with my dad we would sometimes ride right into large herds of free range cattle. While pretty docile, it's still unneunnerving being right in the middle of a large group of 1000lb animals, often with calves, especially when small yourself.

I think Eddie was a put pull. Of course, I love that movie. Marcus, he took my shoe!

Reminds me of this encounter. (Not me). Kind of crazy how unconcerned these two were with the humans. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gGtnijq6C7o

I'm sorry, what is the title of this movie?

I've never run into a bear on my bike, but I was woken by one while camping/bow hunting last fall. In the middle if of night I was woken up by this ruckus of brush snapping and huffing cough/barking noises unlike anything I had ever heard, there was definitely some animal bigger than me about thirty yards away and upset! I had a .45 with me, and long story short I ended up shooting one round off into a berm in an attempt to scare it away, but it barked back! We weren't sure what it was, but spent about half an hour sitting in the truck till we were sure it was gone, and talking to more experienced woodsmen later, pretty sure it was a bear. I had only ever heard then make a moan/growl noise before that though...

From little critters to big animals, not a good thing to encounter while on a bike. I've been doing more gravel / off-road and have had two fairly close run in's with deer. Unpredictable which way they decide to move.

edit: pics or it didn't happen

Hamm's used to be a sponsor of the Baltimore Orioles back many, many years ago. I think that I remember the jingle - "From the land of sky blue waters - Hamm's beer, From the land of sky blue waters - Hamm's beer" (tom tom in the background).

This really was a ridiculous scene, but fun.
