Must visit Portland, OR bike shops?

We are visiting Portland this weekend in advance of graduation ceremonies at the U of O on Monday. What are must visit bike shops, both C&V and KOF? Food that shouldn't be missed? Beer that must be consumed?

    Many thanks.

Another vote for Velo Cult. I was pretty sad when Sky (the dude's name) moved away from San Diego, but I don't fault him at all. He's much happier in Portland.

There are some sweet bikes at River City, not all for sale. A few bikes we would have died for in the '70s. And free espresso on weekends. Very high quality shop. Lots of small shops. Like triple digits. Several started and owned by women. Need a wheel? Sugar Wheel Works. A bike or saddle or woman's custom bike? Gladys. Older bikes and good for the community - Community Cycling Center and CityBikes. (I have a lot of parts and 4 frames from those shops.)

And lots more! Alpenrose velodrome has its "Heartbreaker" Saturday and Blue Ribbon Track Omnium Sunday. Both full days of racing.

There is a little shop in Tigard. It has been a while since I've been in there, but it was a unique store a few years back. Unfortunately it was closed when I passed by a couple of days ago

Should be fun to watch. There is also a good British pub, Moon and Sixpence, right across the street, for pub food dinner.

    Breweries:

    My favorites:
    Amnesia
    The Commons
    Hopworks Urban Brewery aka HUB

    Other super good breweries:
    Hair of the Dog
    Laurelwood
    Cascade
    Upright
    Basecamp

There are many others, I just haven't tried them. Also, if you like Thai food, Pok Pok is vital. So, so good. James Beard winning good. There is always a wait and no reservations, but that is why they have a sister bar across (Whiskey Bar) the street that you can drain a couple beers in. Salt and Straw has really good ice cream. umm... Any number of food trucks in the food truck corrals are good. Yelp will help you there. Love me some PDX!

    No,
I was happy to see the shop still existed since it has been about 15 years since I was inside.
But I don't get into the area frequently, and I was unable to look around inside at their current offerings.

I just remember it having just about anything bike related that one could possibly want.

I always found nice vintage components at Community Cycling Center on Alberta, which is a damn fine local co-op.

Well, Velocult is a bike shop that has a bar, and hosted a C&V ride last weekend.
Hopworks Bike Bar is a bar that's almost a bike shop

Bikes & beer, what could be better?

You'll certainly go to Velocult because of the overwhelming support here but to me, it started with a focus but lost it when the business started sinking, hence now reducing all inventory that made them special, doubling the tables for bar patrons, turning into some sort of weird man-cave and most odd, accepting any event offered. I actually walked in when a wake was going on. A wake! Most awkward thing I've ever experienced in a bar errr, bike shop. The best part was, they didn't even shut the place down for it. I walked in to buy a part and watched a woman weep. So weird.

Support a true local bike shop and, as suggested by others above, visit River City. In fact, here's a nice video about the owner and classics they have hanging.

Also, if you have access to a vehicle, vist Burlingame Bikes in SW Portland. It's a solid classic and vintage shop that nobody seems to know about (even here!) with some of the finest inventory in the city, minus the culty BikePortland people!

    What about Renovo Bikes.

I haven't been there, but now that I'm back in Eugene, perhaps I'll put it on the list for my next trip to Portland.

Small place, but they usually have a few nice C&V in-house. Lots of good eats+beer up and down Alberta street, the Clown House is long gone.
