Sprite 27 fender question

I have a Sprite 27 that is missing the rear fender and have found a fender that is supposedly off of a Raleigh Superbe which I believe is a 26" fender.

I have read elsewhere on here that it can be made to fit, and wanted to get anyone's opinion on this.

Thanks

Welcome to the forums!

I can't say for sure that it will fit, but I suspect that it will. The Superbe fender is probably a little different than the Sprite fender in terms of styling, but that may not matter to you.

Welcome.

You can get almost anything to fit, but making it look decent could be another storyl

Thanks for the reply, I can't find any Sprite 27 rear fenders anywhere. And this one came up which is the same color as my bike, albeit a slightly different model. I haven't picked it up yet, but for the price I am getting them for I will give it a go, and worst case is I'll remove it if I locate an original.

Stretching a 26" fender to fit a 27" wheel, while possible, is not a great solution. Sprites are numerous, better to look for a direct replacement or purchase a correct size aftermarket fender. IMO anyway.

If they're clean paint, they're worth $50 on ebay, thus unworthy of buggering up IMHO

I am getting them both for $15. I have searched the web and ebay, etc. and cannot locate one. As I mentioned these are the same color as well. I realize its not ideal, but for the price worth a try.

You can re-sell them for $50 and use the $35 towards the correct fenders.

They'll be worth a lot less after you kink them.

I've put a couple of sets of 26" "Sports" fenders on my 27" bikes. They look great. I used fenders from the lower end of the Raleigh line, like Phillips and Robin Hood. The difference is that the stays on the cheap bikes are bolted on, while the upper end fenders like you find on a Raleigh or a Rudge have welded on stays. That makes it very easy to remove them and make slightly longer ones from heavy wire. You'll have to make a little extension from aluminum or something instead. Please be gentle and don't screw them up. You'll also likely need to spread the front of the front fender a little. You can do this with your fingers without screwing up the paint.
When you find the fender you want, I'll buy those nice green ones from you.
This is my Lenton GP;

And this is my Supercourse;
