I take a piece of wooden rod about the diameter of a broomstick, and attach it tightly to a portable work stand in a vertical position. I slide the head tube over the wood and it holds fine. Easy to take the frame out and flip it over. Use a slightly smaller one for the fork steerer tube.

Rattle can. Probably not as durable as a pro job. My wife masked it for me.
I'm not really happy with it though and might have it painted this winter.

so...uh.....I know this has been talked about before, but how did your projects end up turning out and what method did you use?
I have a hard time believing a rattle can will end well, no matter how hard you try. Did you purchase a spray gun? which ones?
I'm very close to pulling the trigger and repainting my own bike. I just don't want it to look bad.
