Cycling quotes.

Post a favorite quote.

“I wonder if the decline in road bike sales isn't also a reaction to the perfection of the road bike. Maybe once
you get everything you want, you lose interest. Back when road bikes had cottered cranks, Simplex derailleurs
made of flimsy plastic, Universal brakes that couldn't arrest the forward motion of a determined box turtle, and
tires so miserable they will remain nameless (Hutchinson, I lied), you could hardly wait to buy a better one.
Now, with factories pumping out an endless stream of perfect bicycles --functionally perfect anyway -- who cares?"
-- Ted Costantino
“My mother and I have a difference of opinion. She thinks I should go see a shrink; I think I should buy a new bike."
-- Alex Obbard
“Lemond was in trouble. He had a bout of diarrhea. He rode by me with thirty kilometers to go, surrounded by his
domestiques bringing him to the front. God the smell was terrible. It was rolling down his legs. I know if it was
me I would stop. But then I am not capable of winning the Tour de France. He is, and I suppose that's the
difference."
-- Paul Kimmage

"They should have stopped at 8 #$%^& eight speeds."-Don Boswell, current owner of Don's Bike Shop (30 years)

"We paid for 1 day. That's 24 hours. I will see you tomorrow with a little over an hour to go."-G O'Bree
This, after coming up 51m short of Moser's Hour record on a custom Specialized.
He broke it 22 hours later on a bike he'd made from a washing machine, cheered on by Moser.

"Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride." - John F. Kennedy

"When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking." - Arthur Conan Doyle, in an 1896 Scientific American article.

"It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle." Ernest Hemingway

Someone might have transcribed that from an oral statement, but in print he was more careful.
In then not about the bike book, he danced around stating that, goes on about all the tests he has had, how he was the most tested athlete ever...how disruptive they were and how he had never tested positive.

Well, that's not true either when the UCI assists when it was otherwise... But he was cagey with his statements.

After reading that book, I concluded he was amped.

Wish I had the old issues of Competitive Cycling, but in an interview, Reigning National Champion John Howard in an interview advised that "52t chainrings just don't cut it". He used 53 or 54.

I think it's terrible the way people are treating Lance Armstrong, all the things they're saying about him, especially after he won all those Tours de France riding his bike while he was on drugs. When I was on drugs I couldn't even FIND my bike...
