Did the tour start? Where can I watch online?

If you have NBCSports on cable or satellite subscription, you can get the live internet feed for free..... in case you want to follow
the Tour away from home.....
or you could "borrow" a log-in from a friend or relative that subscribes. But that would be illegal, so don't do that

The stages start around midnight here. I'm gonna be pretty blurry eyed in the mornings for the next few weeks. Relaxing with a blanket and a tea to watch it is kind of cool compared to sitting in the heat with a beer in Europe.
The British guy on Eurosport can be a bit asinine but he manages to stay enthusiastic and talk the whole stage. You get some quality banter with him and Sean Kelly (bloody interesting guy) when Kelly isn't about to fall asleep (like during Roubaix). 'Lemond on tour', ok Lemond is happy to waffle on for a bit but it gets annoying. I don't really care for seeing John Degancolb do a pop music quiz either, when the race has already started.
The adds for Degancolb's 'caffeine shampoo' almost can't be serious. Oh yeah, they cut to adds whenever the hell they want on Eurosport.
CyclingHub | Livestream 1
The low quality Steephill etc NBC/Eurosport streams range from Horrible to Bad and I was about to give up and get some horrible proxy malware on my computer so i could get around the Geoblocking and buy NBC or stream Aus coverage, but I finally found a good quality stream.
Please don't tell everyone about this, because i suspect we could overload some poor guys garage servers.
I like Quintana (like everyone), but after seeing Sagan puncture in Holland and then fight back alone to a stacked Sky/ Etixx/ Soudal/ Tinkov/ BMC/ Trek lead group that was motivated to make time on Quintana and Nibali down the line, then make second in the sprint, I would like to see him pretend he could be a GC rider.
I bet he is payed a lot to support Contador, and he could easily lead a team and aim for stage wins.
Meanwhile the same thing happens to Nibali and he blatantly drafts a bunch of team cars to make it back.

Someone said I can pay NBC Sports $20 or $30 for the rights to stream footage, but I can't find the link. I don't need to watch it live. I prefer to sleep before sunrise.

Or get VpyrVPN, connect through their server in the UK, and subscribe to Eurosport Player UK. Should be about $15 for the month.

Anyone looking at getting around Geoblockers with a VPN or a DNS proxy or something, be careful, you're opening yourself up to malicious stuff.

I've watched pieces of the Tour for the last few years and really want to get into it, but for the life of me I still can't figure it out. I just can't wrap my head around the team thing.

I never thought I had much use for a DVR until the Tour. Now I set it to record and watch it from the beginning when I get up later. Allows me to zap through commercials and boring stuff. Truth be told I watch if more for the scenery than the race. The race itself is usually boring and rather predictable. Break away, catch break away, field sprint. It is fun to watch Cavendish when he is on.

Amazing stage (4) today. After getting beat up so badly on a hellish road surface and right at the end the peloton hardly notices one intrepid rider break from the pack. All of the other riders seemed to be frozen with indecision. Who would take responsibility for chasing this rogue down? With about 3 km from the finish, Tony Martin must have had an inking that perhaps no one would chase him and he certainly had the guns to leg it out. Even so, Martin kept looking over his shoulder like he couldn't really believe it.

I'll admit the functionality is cool, but it will use you as an end point too. Other user's traffic may exit through your connection, and they may take on your IP. This bothers me slightly, because people mask their IP addresses with VPN services for 2 reasons, to get around Geoblocking and to do nasty crap like look at child porn and send death threats.
So just sayin, if you see armed police at your door one day, just relax and try to explain your passion for cycling.

Cyclingfans is a good place to watch things. I've found the french feed to be the best this year so far. I don't watch the full stages much as in years past due to time constraints. I agree with watching it more for scenery than actual race sometimes. I usually go on Velo News for recap articles and Cycling Weekly for recap highlights. They have good, concise videos with no filler:
Watch: Highlights from stage three of the Tour de France - Cycling Weekly

Just a pitch here for Directv Sports Extra package. I live in a rural area w/o cable, and this is a great package for the cycling fan.
NBC Sports carries TDF & World Championship, Universal Sports carries Giro, Vuelta, InCycle and almost all the Spring Classics as well as cyclocross
in the winter and BeIn network has a few cycling events as well. Costs me about $10 a month. Also has college football, basketball.
For you cord-cutters, Sling TV has a more limited sports package.
Its shaping up as a great Tour.... lots of action and competition in the first week.
