Univega Gran Turismo Mixte Frame Rust?

Univega Gran Turismo Mixte Frame Rust?
Hi all,
Need your advice again. Simple question is, would you buy this Univega Gran Turismo with it's current condition? I know nothing about frame rust and how to repair it and how far gone it may be. This bike will be for my girlfriend who wants a nice around town/weekender bike. The challenge is that she want's a blue mixte and this fit's the bill. I don't want to get her something too rusted or ending up with a damaged paint job as we intend to dress her's up quite a bit with a nice saddle, handle bars and additional accessories. So what do you think, is it too far gone for my intentions?
I'm not asking what's it worth so please don't move this thread to appraisals!!

For that age of bike, the frame looks quite good in the photos, but sometimes the bike looks worse when seen close up. There are lots of threads about touching up the occasional paint scratch... if it isn't too bad.
You might find some aluminum handlebars that would meet your needs. Or, just try to remove the rust on the existing bars.

Whether or not I'd buy it would depend on the price. Some Naval Jelly (by Loctite) will make quick order of that rust. Even some aluminum foil would help.

Well, I can't talk him down from $150 and would have to drive an hour for it. Too much in my opinion. Will have to wait for other options....

I won't comment on the price but it is a nice looking bike. A good does of elbow grease will really make it look great.
