Nikishi Super 3 - S/N: KS172859
Hi all,
I'm brand new to the forum, mainly because I've run into some trouble finding any information about a bike I just purchased for $30. I have limited experience working on bikes, but I am relatively handy and have tooled around on other scooters and vehicles.
The bike is a Nishiki (sorry about the mixup in the title) Super 3 that I am refurbishing for myself and my girlfriend. Does anybody have any good information about this model (quality, rare, worth sinking some time and money into)?
I'm looking to replace the chain, tires/tubes, and brake pads to start, but how do I go about figuring out which size of chain to purchase?
Thank you for any information in advance!

I believe the Super 3 dates from around 1970-72. It was a lower end recreational bike, and while probably there aren't many still around, it isn't considered rare or valuable. However, yours appears to be in good condition.
A bike shop should be able to assist you in selecting the correct chain for your 3 speed bike. The one that Wal-Mart sells for 3 speeds will probably work fine, too.

Hi @scsc7211,
thanks for posting the pictures and serial number.
Based on the serial number and decals, your Super 3 probably dates from 1973.
Is it rare? Probably. Many of these would have been sold in the 1970s, but not many would have been saved.
3 speed internal hub bicycles were fairly common in the 1960s and into the 1970s. There are some people who like these bicycles, but they are not highly sought after.
If you and your girlfriend like the bicycle and are going to ride it, then it is worth investing in. But if you are trying to resell it, then you may not recover your investment.
