Newbie here, hoping somebody can help me.

Hello, I am new to this forum and relatively new to biking. I recently found and purchased an older Cannondale on craigslist and I'd like to find out more about it. I think I understand the serial number, making it a 1986. The serial number is 50101586061. I have tried looking at the catalogs to find my bike but it doesn't list the correct color - it's like a mint green with white decals. I did see the mint green with coral/orange decals, something about Team Comp but that is not the bike I have. Also, I tried to attach a pic and I can't figure out how to do that. (I see the option, but when I attempt to upload the pic nothing happens.) Hoping somebody can help me figure out what bike I have. I would greatly appreciate your time.

Best to post your pics to a free site like photobucket or flickr and then post a link to them here.

They might have changed the decal colors mid-year, or into the next year.

Bulletin boards typically don't do iframes, for security reasons. Stick with the straight URL.

The sr400 was offered in mint in 1987. Could be some crossover in colors and other small details between years.

Just looking at the catalogs, the "Cannondale" on the top tube of your frame is in the typeface used in 1987 which changed from 1986.

Nice. 50 cm I believe.
I have some frames from those years but they have beat up paint jobs.

That is the tiniest C-dale I've ever seen, and possibly the stiffest frame ever made. Let's sprint!

The 48 was smaller. Top tube went through the downtube.

Be careful with those top tube cable guides. They are a bit on the delicate side & impossible to find replacements.

Super dope bike.

Catalogues | Cannondale Archive | Retrobike

https://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/d/10607-2/1987.pdf

Those should be the pertinent catalogues

Mint Green? I thiught it was Celeste Green? I picked up a very similar Cannondale frame two weeks ago, but it has Shimano in blue letterinon it.

One day I need to buy a Cannondale or a Klein.
They wrote the book on stiffness way back.

I see them all the time on eBay, repros for $25/set in black or white. It's probably just some schmoe with a 3D printer, but good enough, perhaps. I'm surprised nobody else has come up with these and brought the price down.

At some point I'll probably end up buying a set when I get around to refinishing my ST600.

So the frame could have been made and painted in 1986 (according to the serial number) but components added and sold in 1987?

From what I've read, Cannondale calls it mint green. I have seen the color Celeste green mentioned when people are talking about bianchis. But really I know nothing about it.

I was being facetious. Below is the frame I purchased, a 54cm. The debate is whether to put a black or silver mostly Shimano 105 group on it?

See black or silver group set?
Probably keep it as "guest bike." I find it hard to part with the Cannondale pastel colored bikes. LOL

Dang that's a great looking frame. Really good condition paint after almost 30 years. Nice find.

I almost bought one of these for a niece of mine. It was really funky looking- the top tube passing thru the downtube to reach the headtube. I haven't seen another of this size/design since.

Probably, this frame could have been made towards the end of the 86 production year and ended up getting dressed up like an 87. I've got an 87 SM400 according to the serial, but the frame has the cable stops used in 88 got what it's worth. This is assuming that yours has the original paint and decals.

Regardless, it's a great looking frame, I look forward to seeing some "after" pics.
