I am ecumenical*as my list of bike testifies. I am all over the place. *The only consistence is that all the bike are steel except for the Ti Merkx(Lightspeed). *I've toured, tandemed, raced(poorly), commuted, mountain biked & just ridden with Campy, Suntour, Shimano & SA on 531, Columbus & other assorted tubing. *No fixie or recumbent however. **

I've just joined the Kestrel congregation; however, I am torn and am still attached to the Italian based faith. Hence, the Campy Record that came with the Kestrel.

If this is not C&V and you wish to deny me communion, you won't be the first organization that has rejoiced at my departure and my feelings won't be hurt. Take heed, take heed before letting me approach the altar. When I got a tattoo, one of the grunge looking artists said, "isn't it scary to you that you're now one of us?" I replied, "not nearly as scary as the fact you just let me into your group." He wept.

If you do serve me communion, I need you to tell me how you square our addictions with our SWMBO's? "It followed me home", only worked once and I don't think "I found it on the side of the road" will work.

I am, and have always been, a member of the True Ancient Fixed Faith from which all cycling schisms and heresies derive in their multitude of apostate abominations.
To quote the appropriate scripture:

"I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailleur? We are getting soft... As for me, give me a fixed gear! " -Pope Henri Desrange I

Quickly, three trips up and down the Fanno Creek Trail on the Raleigh 20!

Have you done your penance? If so, you shall be absolved of your sins, and communion is assured.

As it may have been some time since your last confessional, you may need a refresher:

Approach the workbench with reverence. The head should be tilted slightly back. Wait until the sacred chalise touches the lips, but firmly so. Then suck down that otherworldy elixir with gusto. Your choice of beverage is a whole nuther decision, and should be argued on beerforums.net. Sierra Nevada has been associated with bicycles for some time, others come to mind. But an ice cold PBR after a long, hot ride ain't bad either...

Oh, the SWMBO issue? You're on your own there, buddy, I got nothin'

Sorry, but seeing as how life has already required me to enter Texas, I have 5 other states to enter before I visit Louisiana (no offense, but I don't view this as a case of saving the best until last). If you're able to raise the city above sea level, I'd be willing to reconsider.

I choose to defend this good woman's honor. Billy, the shaker of all spears has thusly declared that, each unto thine own selves must retain truth. She doest thusly.

@gugie - this is sounding more and more like a Monty Python skit! Hahaha. I rode the trail yesterday to Tualatin & back - 15 miles. Can I apply that? It was on my recent drop bar conversion even, the Miyata mixte! Had NOS brake levers AND down tube shifters....that I actually shifted.

@USAZorro - Any person who wields a sword is a friend of mine. Photos as you wish.
Miyata at Red Barn by velocivixen, on Flickr
Tualatin River on Miyata by velocivixen, on Flickr
1987 Miyata Mixte by velocivixen, on Flickr

My lovely 1987 Miyata One Twelve, which I have lovingly transformed from a double to a triple, larger range freewheel, and appropriate derailleurs (taken off an '87 Miyata Terra Runner). Recently anointed the handlebars with new bar tape and NOS levers that would have been original to this particular model/year.

Blessed is the Sword Master, I bow to thine wisdom. Besides, owning a 54 Hetchins trumps any wisdom I could possibly impart.

Mine path lies not with a name, but with an era:
a time of style and song, of excess and workmanship.
'Tis a journey set firm in the 1970s,
and it is good; but mine is a faith
yet to gain the full strength of myriad experience,
and easily am I lured astray.

I'm pretty much the Pope of Dura Ace 7800. It wasn't a childhood goal, the hat just looked good on me.
IMO, every bicycle is enhanced by Dura Ace. Whenever I am faced with a challenge, or am feeling down, I ask myself WW7800D?
Everything Shimano has done after Dura Ace 7800 has been a carbon abomination. We should all strive to perform in the perfect light of 7800ness.

I even put 7800 pedals on a vintage Look frame. (Angeldog did not approve, but dogs have no souls, so her vote did not count.)

I cannot help but feel sorrow for anyone with 7900 or some other lesser group, I pray for them and hope they realize the error of their ways and accept 7800 into their hearts.

If you have anything other than Dura Ace 7800 on your current favorite bike, you are denying yourself a full life.
