Beautiful Garlatti.

If we're opening arms to stainless, is there room for polished titanium?

Of course! If it is chrome like, polished or plated they all look great. Very nice example and a worthy addition. I appreciate you sharing such a fine and beautiful machine.

That's awesome- I love the fillet brazed look- the way the tubes flow together all Terminator 2 like. Is it actually fillet brazing? Aren't Titanium bikes usually welded?

Every once in a while I get lustful towards a titanium bike- this bike makes this happen again.

I may not be able to find a photo but many years ago in Seattle a guy brought in his chrome plated English bike, a Meteor, to have his wheels rebuilt. We ordered him Mavic hard anodized rims in 32 hole front and 40 hole rear and built them up with new rubber also. He never picked it up, despite numerous calls and letters. It was a full Reynolds 531 tubing 24" frame, close enough to my size that I decided to buy it for the offered price of the parts we had in it. Touring geometry and very swoopy fork blades, a very relaxed ride. I never used it much so sold it to one of my dealers later in my repping days.

It had the only Willams crankset I've ever seen. Tapered splined BB axle instead of four flats.

Thanks, GB. Not fillet brazed (which involves lower temp heat and adding a softer material, usually bronze). The original spec sheet says "butt welded" though I'm not 100% clear what that means and how the smoothed out joints were formed. I presume with additional titanium, but I'm not certain. I could ask Frank the Welder, as he repaired the seat cluster area, and I then did the finishing work. The welds were then filed, sanded, and polished smooth.

I'm the biggest aluminut around, and I'll readily admit that the stainless and chrome bikes embarrass the polished aluminum bikes. I'll post a picture of the other Cannondale tandem we have tomorrow. Polished aluminum, I assume is clear anodized. Its fugly compared to these beauties.

I heard from my father in law (a big classic car guy) that most chroming shops closed up. He thought it was due to environmental regulations. Can you still get a steel bike chromed? What would it cost?

There are still chrome shops around. EPA regs probably shut down a lot of smaller ones. I used to work the zinc line at a big shop in town, and they had to spend a few million dollars on an on-site water treatment facility.

Dunno what a chrome job would cost these days, as it's been about 15 years since I worked there. There were various quality levels that cost varying amounts.

I am enjoying all of these bikes so much I started a Group on Flickr titled " Chrome Cycles Are Cool". Hopefully some of you will post more images of your bikes there and it is open of course to any bike with a chrome or polished natural finish. At least there one can post as many detail shots as they desire.

Those are great pics of Chrome Bikes. I would like to see more of these on the road. Below are pics I took today of my late 80's Atala. I purchased this gem in in the late 80's and unfortunately do not have more info on this. If anyone out there has more info on specs of this model, I would really appreciate it. Also, I would like to find what this model is currently worth (frame). I have yet to find an all Chrome Atala Corsa Professioniti. I believe this is actually Columbus SLX tubing (based on how it feels inside the tubing withing the bottom bracket). Let me know what you think

This lovely Rickert popped up on Classic Rendezvous overnight. Still the original owner, who raced it in the 70s, and he still rides it today.

Hetchins

1953 Hetchins Magnum Bonum (I love that name!) I searched for one of these for quite a while. But once I had it, for some reason I just didn't like riding it that much and sold it. Stunning to look at though.
