That air in my tires. I just use the ordinary stuff I find floating around because I can gt it for free. I do have to convince it to go into the tire, and sometimes it escapes. But as far as I can tell it does exactly what the more expensive stuff in the little cartridges does.

No, actually, they don't. The brake housing is unlined. The inner cables corrode. Since I've learned all of this by experience over years, I now feel guilty using them on bad flips, even...so I try not to.

No, they really do. I lube the cables with a skim of grease. Also, my bikes are sunshine bikes. Oh, and I'm not a flipper.

What used to be purposefully cheap on my part now just looks retro. Kinda bums me out. Back in my bike shop days I always used SunTour when the other guys wanted Campy and Dura Ace; V-GT and Mountech derailleurs worked just fine for me, ditto for Perfect freewheels. Any bike I rode back then was faster than I was and my speed has not improved since. That gear is still on some of those bikes and nowadays the youngsters say, "Cool old stuff, mister!"

what's wrong with jagwire? i thought their lined housing and stainless or teflon cables were the best out there.

The PRO sets I have used have all been great and I've also had very good luck with the Aican cable sets.
everyone I know runs jagwire or shimano stuff...even the lycra and carbon guys. what other higher end options are there?

I sure am. Though I may break out the Trek 820 for a rainy cool ride in October. My roadbikes get the baby treatment (except I ride them hard).
ETA: it did sprinkle on todays little ride out of town with the Colnago.

I bought a roll of housing in bulk, and I just use the bell inners with a better outer housing. So far so good.

Another +1 for Kalloy posts. I have an unbranded zero offset one that looks every bit as good as my Thomson Masterpiece. Sure it is a little heavier, but it was $13.

Kalloy Uno stems are very popular among the weight weenie crowd. $20 for a very light and strong stem.

Cheap cork tape.

Nashbar branded saddles.

Nashbar branded Keo pedals.

Tiagra 10 speed cassettes, brakes, front deraillers, brifters

When my California Masis were new, they came factory with Hunt-Wilde white molded plastic handlebar end caps.
Everyone removed them and went with Cinelli or anything else. They were very cheap at the time.
Now in ebay they fetch $10-15 per pair when they show up.

No stigma here, my wheel/tire combo was $5 from a guy who lives in a motel next to an adult bookstore.
But it got my '89 Merlin rolling!
