Any info on my Moser?
Hello.
I have this Francesco Moser frame that I plan to setup.
The paintjob is unique but in bad condition, so I will probably have to respray.
Any info on the year, model or especially the tubing?
On the sticker it says "Constructione Telai Speciali - Pro - Moser".
The Dropouts are Campagnolo.
Thanks.

I think the diagonal stripes might be decals under a clearcoat. I'd check with Gus Salmon (Florida) or Greg Softley (New Zealand) to see what they have or might be able to produce. You can contact Gus via Cyclocals and Greg via Cyclomondo.

It might be a close relative of mine. Mine has the arrow pantograph on the lugs, commemorating the '84 hour record. Mine has the Columbus sticker where your "Pro" sticker is. My down tube logo is sprayed on and has "Francesco Moser" instead of "F. Moser" like you see on most. I found an obscure old link once of selling one that looks like mine, referred to it as the Pro model. By the way, definitive internet info on Mosers is scarce.
It is a very sweet riding bike and I'm sure you'll enjoy it once you have it squared away.

I would do a major clean-up on that frame before thinking of a re-spray. It will probably clean-up and look better than you think. Maybe you can match the paint and touch-up the scratches if you want. Painting, along with decals and any chrome work, can be very expensive and time consuming if it's done professionally.
Nice ride, sorry I can't add more...

But then at closer inspection I saw it was quite heavily rusted. Maybe to an unsafe degree.
I need some help from my local expert to get the crankset (rounded out allen bolts) and stem (stuck) out. Then I plan to sand all the rusty parts, but I don't think I can get away without a respray...
So I thought I'd try to gather all the info I could get as to what I would be riding. It is obviously the "PRO" model and probably Columbus SL, but I can't be sure. I've read however that Moser didn't really make any cheap models, I think it's safe to say it's probably a pretty OK frame.

Sure you can. I bought decals for my 1970 Atala from Greg. Last I checked, the mail still operates been NZ and the USA. I imagine Kiwi Post will probably be happy to send mail to the Eurozone as well. <wink>
