Hot!! I love that headbadge. The red background makes it look midly sinister like all good logos.

I'll take a look tomorrow, it's out in the garage. Did your's have the fenders? They're some of the nicer fenders I've seen on a bike this old. I can't figure why someone isn't making anything like them now.

A Scafin, which has turned into a long term project. Currently in pieces, but I am getting close to sorting out the options, which will likely make it a keeper, rather than a sale bike.

Beyond that, I am looking for an inexpensive wheelset for a Schwinn 594.

No. No fenders, though I knew it was supposed to have them. Sam Fitzsimmons (who has mine now) said Drysdale made the fenders himself.

I never knew what was original on mine. English parts with a couple exceptions like the Iver Johnson stem. Same frame, same size, same crank and seat post as yours, but replacement wheels and stem; not sure about the handlebar. Very few makers marks, though the bb was Walton&Brown, pedals were Perry.

No real projects & nothing vintage. Coin a rebuild Mr Velocivixen's pedals. Dialing in my riding position & saddle on my new modern ride. Riding 20+ miles or so several times per week.

I haven't quite completely figured out the course of action on this super unusual '70's Bridgestone. Current thinking is replace rusted steel rims with some alloy French 27" wheels I have, replace crankset with an aluminum Sugino, and looks like I have a candidate for the cherry Suntour V-GT and Suntour alloy front derailleur in my parts stash. Gonna keep the super ornate early Suntour stem shifters.
Bike needs paint. Color? Not sure yet. Open for ideas.

Thanks Law, it would be ironic if you helped to end the Mongooses time with me since I got it from you in the frame swap thread. It really was a fun bike, I just did not like the foot and a half of seat post showing.

do you know the maker of the frame? have read that a number of different companies made john deere bicycles over the years.

don't forget the attachment so you can tow a sheepsfoot roller...

How do you like the Retroshift levers? I ask because I'm building a Paganini CX bike from the 1980s and I'm planning to run a 1x9 set up with Retroshift levers. I think they're a cool alternative to brifters for getting in the dirt. Here are a couple photos of the progress made this week, kicked it off on Labor Day for something to do in the shade since it's been 100 degrees this week in SoCal.

Bravissimo, signore.

(I did think the picking the non-Italian would be pretty straight forward).

I was surprised to see the"Limited" had the steepest angles. My Ron Cooper also sits right in with the Italians. I am looking forward to seeing how different the Eisentraut Limited feels.
Cheers, Eric

PS. That last bit of paint stripping around the BB and chainstays always holds me up.

74 (green) and 76 (blue) Raleigh Grand Prix's
Cleaned and prepped for upgrade from junky Shimano SIS to 105, swapped in some 700c rims with 8 speed cassette 11-32 swapped out the 52-42 chainrings to a 42-39 to give me a nice half step setup. I picked up a pair of nice Aero brake levers and will get them set as soon as I get the tires.
I am getting a pair of Panaracer urban guards 700c x 35.

the blue 76 will have the 74s Normandy hubs laced to some NOS Araya 27 x 1 1/4 alloy rims and a Sakae crank with a 44t chain ring. Going to center the rear hub and re-space the axle to run a 17t SS freewheel. Going to use some nice centerpulls I got off Ebay. I need to get a seat and some grips are coming, have some nice Shimano Mt bike levers for the flat bar.

My Serotta frame was shipped out for paint yesterday. I'm estimating by about mid October it should be back. I have been gathering all the components for the build for a while now, so it shouldn't be a long wait for the assembly. I do need to choose a stem - I have several in different lengths, that I can use to dial in the fit. I need to get the wheels on a truing stand and get them sorted, plus a few odds and ends - chain, cables, bar tape...

Yes, I do! but people who know more than I are not convinced. Whatever! All the Velox serial numbers I've seen started with a number in the range 36-39, and so it's pretty tempting to see those digits as a year.

If I recall correctly, mine started 36.

Does yours have a conventional headset, with cups pressed into the head lugs? Mine had floating cups, which looks like an integrated headset.

It doesn't, it has floating cups with standard top nut not a head clip. Like an old Bianchi. There is so much bare metal on the frame and fork that I really want to paint it but I may try preservation for a year or two and decide about the repaint later. Im working on the rear wheel. There is some slight delimitation to the rim. Im going to clean and reglue it. Im betting it'll be fine. According to the advertisements Ive seen this one is all original. Ive always wanted one of these and actually like the more versatile "Alvin" model too the higher end track models.

I've thought about trying a 42/39 half-step more than once, bwilli88. The rings are easy enough to find. Let us know how it works out for you!

Just at the ordering stage, so no clue on the Retroshifts for the NFE.

People that have them like them.

All three of the builds are likely to go Ultegra 6800.

Best value I've seen lately.

NFE with 6800 would be a dream build for me right now - enjoy. I for one would love to see some pics once it's built up and hear any reports on the ride, however off topic it may be...
