It should have been today
But it will happen in around 366 days. Bob, Bob's wife and myself should be on the road to Italy as we speak, but as mentioned in other threads, fate and circumstance said no. The organisers at L'Eroica Gaiole have said our entries will be carried over to next year, so the countdown once again begins.
Those of you heading off to those big gravel hills, have a brilliant time! We'll be out at the weekend on a somewhat shorter ride, thinking of all of you, wearing our full 70s/80 gear. Looking forward to the photos!

Hate it when things pan out like that. I was to have ridden my TransAm this summer and that had to be postponed until next year. Then my backup GAP/C&O fell through when the full-length trip kept getting further truncated until it would only be an overnight near D.C.
Hang in there. It'll happen.

i never really have understood this- is it not a public road? Can't you just go ride there anyway?

Hey, Milo! Thinking of you guys while sitting here in San Gemignano with a whiskey 'con ghiaccio' in the evening sun. Mrs me and I did 60 gruesome kilometers today, riding down from Florence. It feels like we walked 59 of them. If it wasn't the steepness that got us, it was the quality of the roads.
Horrible, I tell ya!

We stayed at an agriturismo near Volterra and had a Wilier and Pinarello.
Great bikes, although we needed wider tires.
No one on the gravel roads to speak of other than tractors and a stray farmer or two.
The day trips into the hill cities were fantastic!!!

You can, but it's not every day you can do it with a couple of thousand like minded C&V folk, and some amazing food and events laid on.

@gomango: nice pics! You're right about the tires. You don't want less than 28mm on those 'strade'. My Gazelle is currently shod with a pair of Challenge Paris-Roubaix', which actually measure 29mm, and they seem to be holding up well.
