Was that Shimanos attempt to compete with the Campy Delta brakes? Looks like a fancy version of roller cam brakes.

They are pre delta by 10 years or so.
But the design goes back 40-50 years I think, judging by some old photos I saw recently.

Shimano Parapull. Had a guy with those on his bike want fenders installed. Just try using a fourth hand tool to pull the cable for a brake adjustment.

I saw something similar on a Huffy Aerowind locked up on Wacker Drive in the Chicago Loop last week. They looked like the brakes in this blog post:

Got a set on my Masi for now. They look neat, but are about as useless as a fart in a noisemaker for stopping.
They're scary weak, even with brand-new pads (which are much, much smaller than modern pads) installed.

Yeah, the same one Eddy Planckeart was on in the '90 Paris Roubaix. I still think Bauer hit the line first and Eddy copped to "The Program" years later. Still, I'm sure everyone knew the secret handshake (milkshake?) back then.

In addition to apparently not braking as well, from the looks of it they seem to be bigger and therefore heavier than their regular side pull counterpart. Anybody have any figures on the weight of these brakes vs. similar era brakes?
