Woo-hoo! Have we suckered him into joining again for the duration, ya think?
And I shared ThermionicScott's concern when I read the thread title, too! Glad we were both dead wrong
Welcome back, Kurt, even if it's just temporary - you definitely had an impact on this Forum, and I've enjoyed all my interactions/deals with you. Now finish that Mustang!

It keeps me entertained on the weekend, and then some. Better than doing nothing, with the thought of Monday inevitably lurking in one's otherwise blank mind.
Hey, keep on with the eulogy, and I'll stick around ! Don't waste the flowers for when I'm dead

Freakin Mopars. Here's one I wish I'da never let go of.
And here's the frame you rescued for me. Couldn't get the girl out of the picture. She laced her first wheel one rainy day this spring and she's nearly as tall as her Mom. Time flies when you're having babies.

Your picture reminds me that a local friend offered me a '66 Dart for $500 last week. Would cost another $470 to title it. Really stinks too, as it was running a few years ago, and it's the perfect excuse to make a That '70s Car ("with a car from the '60s!") special episode, a-la Motor Trend's Roadkill. Might only take a weekend to shoot, and the episode might actually bring back the expense and then some through YouTube monetization (and some extensive social media promotion).
I've been shooting a special with the Satellite and the Valiant over the past year, but I can't release it until I have rolling footage of the Satellite (one of the many reasons its taking too long).
I also remember the frame - Carlton, right? Still carrying it's factory paint today?

I have to admit, that Facel ruined me for old cars. That's the trouble with finding your Grail. The run of the mill stuff at the car show doesn't rev me up any more. I did get called in to judge a car show a couple of years ago. That was fun. My new grail is a 64 Dart wagon, so I can haul my tools around.
The paint on that Carlton wasn't OG when back then. I stripped it and primed it and then passed it on to a neighbor who painted it white instead of the red that I'd picked out. I still have that can of red in the basement, waiting for the perfect frame. Maybe this Schwinn New World that I picked up recently.....
But I digress. Mopars and Mega Range. That's what we're here to talk about. Here's that Carlton naked;

Whew, great to see you around again, Kurt! Would you like any dollars to help defray the cost of the extra site? I know that domains can be annoying in their constant need of money to stay up.

Man, I was nervous when I first say this thread and its title. But, thanks to Scott for posting it here, and for getting Kurt to meerkat. Kurt's posts in this forum were some of the first threads I read in 2007 when I was lurking about, before joining. I know he doesn't know me from Adam, but he is one of the members that drew me to this place. Thanks Kurt!

I don't miss the Raleigh discussions at all. I love the pre-TI bikes, but I had my fill of their 1970's fare after having run into at least four Raleigh Internationals with build qualities that, put simply, would make the results of a drunk Russian framebuilder jigging frames on Harbor Freight jackstands look like the work of Mario Confente by comparison.
Anyway, it's not what I meant. Glad to see you're still alive and kicking. I must admit my first reaction was the same as ThermionicScott's.
BTW, I would not mind a thread or even a sub-forum on C&V cars, if the mods will let us get away with it. Just bought a '72 Alfa Romeo I really need to show off.

And I feel overwhelmed with ONE 1950 Ford F-1?? In my defense I am chopping the top, channeling the cab, sectioning the hood, installing an AOD behind the flathead V8, and so on and so forth. Good to hear from you again Kurt! You've helped me more than you know over the years. Even if just by reading a bit of info I needed at the moment.,,,,BD

Y're bringing back slant 6 memories with those Darts.... We serviced a rancher's fleet when I was in middle school and high school. He had 4 Dodge Darts, 4 pickups, and he drove a Ramcharger. He also kept another engine ready to go. I'll bet I can still change the oil blindfolded, filter and all. He rolled one of the trucks over, ended up on the wheels, and drove it to the dealership, got out, got the key to another truck from a salesman and drove home.
I always wanted a white Satellite Sebring with a 318, AT on the floor, half vinyl top, black carpet white seats. Keystones, Jensen coax in the back.

Would you believe that I dream of waking up to your since-sold Facel Vega every other day? After doing the 318-to-360 swap on the Satellite, swapping that seized 383 for another Mopar big block sounds like a complete piece of cake to me now.
That's after "buffing" it out - this is the nightmare I started with
Editor's note: "Costs more than the bicycles."
Knowing I could help bring one more enthusiast into our friendly little black hole makes it all worth it!
I know I'm unfairly biased against the Internationals. After all, it IS possible to find a nice Raleigh frame of any model (and I have seen one nicely-built International in person), but the lack of consistency took the fun out of it.
As I recall, the geometry of each of those Internationals differed from mild to wild as well. I believe there was an intended geometry change during the production run, but I also recall headtube angles - either on one or two on BikeForums or locally - that were wonky enough to suggest that the top tube was either a quarter inch too short or long. Guess someone pulled the tubing out of the wrong cart for those, or was simply drunk when mitering.
This is unofficially an off-topic thread where old cars are entirely fair game. Bonus points if they're shown with bicycles. Pictures, please of that F-1!
FYI, one of the fellows on the 7173Mustangs forum has succesfully mated a 351C to the 4R70W; essentially the modern computer-controlled version of the AOD, which - for all it's modernism - is a stronger trans in stock form. Let me know if you'd like the link.
I'll have to dig it up and re-upload it for everyone.
And wouldn't you know, I sold off my fleet until I was left with painted Paramounts, go figure! Still attached to the '61, though it's been many moons since I've ridden it. The '82 Superior is my "looks good" version of the same build, and generally gets out a bit more.
Funny, changing the oil on an A-body with a Slant Six is a pain in the butt, IMO. The center link sits right behind the bolt - so much for a socket and ratchet. It's one of those situations where you really need a shorty box wrench.
Oh, and a little nostalgia fuel while we're at it:
-Kurt
Editor's note: "Costs more than the bicycles."
Those Internationals must have been especially made for the US. Never seen one here. Which is a pity, because I'm pretty sure I'd like the geometry.

It's in the beginning stages. Once I start spending the real money, the cab is going to get media/soda/walnut/whatever blasted. Probably after much of the metal work is done. I have to get the cab off eventually, so I can clean up and turn the frame black. I got a nicer solid bed for $400 or so, with fenders. I am thinking of raising the floor about 4 inches to go with the three inch chop. Working on a budget sucks, unfortunately. The first couple of pics are before, then a couple of shots of the chop, which was just getting fun when the 95+ temps started. I'm not a kid anymore, so working in real heat plus sitting under an aluminum carport in the sun, is no longer fun for me, lol.,,,,BD
The whitewalls are obviously photoshopped. The bed, red rims, red flathead, and chop are real. Going for a 50's style custom on it. Pearl white with red scallops probably, and the flipper hubcaps.
Foot tall windshield. I'd love for it to be 8-10 inches tall, but unfortunately my big head has to go somewhere.
It had some door alignment issues during the chopping, but it closes straight now. Yep, I had it braced, but things move....
I kept the full size back window. It adds a lot of work, but totally worth it.
Bonus footage... The flathead running after about a grand of parts, and hours of work....

1st - I never expected Kurt would chime in when I started this thread so I am beyond happy about that!!
2nd - As long as the thread is automotive-ly hijacked, I'm sharing my rides before after shots also!!
1972 Chevelle Malibu
1st pick it has the stock 307 and El Camino rims that replaced the steelies and hubcaps
2nd pic it has a junkyard 400 small block out of a (I think) 1976 Impala Station Wagon rebuilt with an RV cam for all torque, fresh paint from an ex-army painter, Cragers from a yard sale that had been spray painted black and I had more than an hour of elbow grease in each rim

Damn I got scared for a minute. I thought this was a eulogy thread.
Kurt, I remember talking on the phone with you about bikes a number of times, maybe 10 years ago?

Say, what ever happened to your spare SBC motor? Come to think of it, what ever happened to the El Camino with tons of blowby due to wrong rings?
I also remember the OldRoads forum as the very first forum I ever posted in. Loved the English Lightweights discussion - and wouldn't you know, I met Bikedued there for the first time (under a different alias).
Still bringing mile-high piles of Raleighs to the shop?

Wow, oldroads, lol. I haven't posted there in eons!. This truck is mostly going to be something to sell after I enjoy it for a while. Destination will be a 1970-71 Torino GT fastback. Probably a custom shade of dark olive green that I pick from a paint chip book most likely. Been wanting one since 10th grade, and I am 2 years from 50 years old now. Time to do something about it. I want to find one that has most of the mechanical work done, and just needs cosmetics. I do have a van in the garage with a fuel injected 302 in it. That could make for an interesting project. I am planning to rib the AOD from it, unless I just freshen up the clutch on the old three speed behind the flathead.
I have dreams of making the Torino 4.6 powered as well. Not sure if I'd ever get around to that though.,,,,BD
Basically want something like this. Different wheels and a little darker on the paint.

Just thought I'd drop in and let you all know that I've sorted out the URL issue, and pointed it to my current hosting.
Put simply: All the old images that I've posted over the years should have (magically!) reappeared for future reference. I'll try to maintain the additional URL yearly along with the others that I have.
