The house band in the movie at Torchys was The Blasters. The go go dancer was the Flashdance double. Here are the Blasters with a nice live version of Dark Night.

In 1983 or so, my college job was working as the night bellhop/night watchman at the Pacific Plaza Hotel in downtown Seattle. Hanging out in the lobby, nothing to do at 1am, maybe 2am, trying not bother Elmer, who's doing the night audit.
The Blasters were in town, playing probably the Paramount Theatre or the Moore, after their gig, they're checking in, probably 2am. Much hauling of amp heads and guitar cases; the hard to replace personal favorites they don't want to leave in the van. They've signed for their rooms and got their keys. Elmer's gone off to do somethining the back office for awhile, and Dave Alvin drops his guitar case on the lobby floor, and points at me and says "You can watch this till I get back, can't you? Be a few minutes."
"Sure thing; I'll stick here 'til you come back."
Ten minutes. Guitar case just sitting there on the floor.
Twenty minutes. What kind of guitar does Dave Alvin play onstage?
Half an hour. I play in a band, also, and am kind of crazy about vintage guitars. Forty minutes. Screw it, I'm going to check out that guitar.
I open the case (upside down, as it happens) and out spills a nicely battered vintage blonde Fender Mustang, plus a ****pile of set lists and sheet music, tuner, picks, string packs, odds and ends. That case was really packed with junk. All of it just cascading out across the lobby floor. At that very moment, Dave walks back in and says "What the.. ?"
"I'm sorry." I'm handing stuff back to him while he packs it into the case. "I play in a band too, and I was just curious about what kind of guitar you had in there."
Now he's kind of understanding and amused, "Oh yeah, what kind of band?"
"Well just rock and roll stuff, three chord stuff. Kinda like you guys, I guess, maybe not quite so old fashioned."
"OLD FASHIONED?!" Gives me a nasty look and stomps off with his case.

Something got me started on a vinyl kick. I haven't been into vinyl in a very long time. I don't like the pops and skips and scratches and just how much of a pain it is to change records. But I got out my turntable the other day and I've been listening to vinyl it's been fun. This morning it's been Fleetwood Mac Rumors.

Anyone else listen to Tito and Tarantula? They are usually staples in Robert Rodriguez movies. The house band in From Dusk to Dawn with the famous snake dance. Fairly dark bluesy stuff.

Just to change the subject, it is sort of like a Seinfeld episode.

Really? Sweet. I think I played there somewhere around '02/'03.
Fair enough, and very true - any place that charges to play is not a place worth playing for the most part. Not to say that that wasn't done once or twice. FWIW (exactly nothing), some of my favorite gigs were private/house parties. Better atmosphere, the band(s) seemed to play better, more musical freedom, etc., etc. ...plus the after-parties were a blast. Good times.
Great tastes in music here - I learned a thing or two here.

We played there between 88' & 92'. We opened for Sham 69, Lemonheads, Jello Biafra, Alice Donut etc. The Biafra gig was funny in that he went on & on & on with his spoken word thing. By the time we played, after his set, the place had pretty much cleared out. We did our set and ended with a sloppy cover of Deep Purple's "Highway Star". During the song, some long haired dude jumped up on stage and took over lead vocals. Turned out to be Dave Pirner from Soul Asylum. They were in New Your recording a record and had finished there evening recording session. Fun night.
Fun, fun, fun back in the day......

... Jimmy Hendrix at an old movie theater in long Beach...
...Frank Zappa and the Mothers and Alice Cooper at some Orange County junior college...
...Big Brother at the Shrine Auditorium was memorable. I saw the Mothers there, too...something I took. It was the sixties.

I gotta get out more. I read the last few pages and about the only thing mentioned that's familiar to me was the Rolling Stones.

BTW, I think C&V saddles make a lot of sense. Those hard leather Brooks, Ideal, Belt, RHM saddles; they all make my bum happy. Or rather, make my bum forget that they are there at all. Which is the whole point, of course.
Besides, most of your weight is supposed to be on your pedals, right?
