Conti also makes the GP4000 with the retro brown sidewalls. Come in 700 x 20, 700 x 23, 700 x 25, & 700 x 28.

Can be found for under $40 if you are patient.

Paselas have a poor reputation in the tandem community.
We've run 32mm Pasela TGs on our tandem since I built it up. WOre out one set in about 5000 miles, never had a flat. Developed a slow leak in a tube once. More recently we picked up a piece of glass. I'd say that's not bad at all for 6000 miles on a tandem.

Much cheaper here. MaineCycles is immediate to ship and easy to work with. Where I get my tires except Compass from Jan.

Westernbikeworks has them for $80 a pair, sometimes as low as $70 a pair on sale.

OS on 25s, but they restock quickly.

Neither did I when I rode them, but the ride is not in the same league as some of these others. Imho

+1 on Conti 4000s being the go to tire by which I've judged all others when it comes to straight forward road hammering.

I used Paselas for the first time and found them to be just meh. Cushy but non responsive.

On my most recent build I went with Vittoria Open Corsa SC. Highly acclaimed and beautiful vintage look but I haven't logged enough miles to judge them yet.

It appears no one has brought up the Specialized Turbo Cotton. Great vintage look with the cotton sidewall but hefty MSRP of $80. I ride the Sworks Turbo on my Tarmac and love them. Here's a link to the Cotton:

Wow, I've only seen them in the 23 and was looking for the 25. Will have to keep looking.

BTW revchuck, I think I saw in one of your earlier posts that you were thinking about putting some 25s on an Ironman. You might check the Ironman threads first. Depending on the year, I think it was determined there wasn't enough clearance on the rear. I know I tried some Panaracer 25s on my 87 and had issues. I think others had reported the same.

I've run 700x25 Krylions on it with no issues. As long as the LGGs are fairly true to size, I don't think there'll be any problem.

Huh. I really like Pasela TG/PT's, whatever the flat resistant folding ones are called these days. Have put a bunch of miles on them on the Serotta Club Special in size 25 this year, no problems and a lovely ride, even on the century we did up in NJ last month. They've also done well on 27 inch size on the Voyageur. Am planning to put them on the Cinelli as well, and have a set of 28's for the Pelizzoli project bike. They're not Corsa SC's, but after a lot of flats in the spring, I gave those away.

I put Pasela PTs on my first bike, my '88 LeTour. Specifically because they were well regarded here on BF back when I researched over a year ago for 27" tires. There is much more limited selection in 27s. I've had Veloflex Masters and GP4ks now on my 700c bikes and yeah the Pasela's aren't quite as nice but they are certainly a fine tire. No flats yet. As I recall the ride was better on the non-PT model (but then more prone to flatting). If I had to buy more 27ers, I'd re check what is available but so far I'd have no issues buying the Paselas again.

Me, for one. 25mm Paselas would brush the rear brake of my '89 Ironman. No troubles with 23s

Anyone seen the conti 4000s2's with the brown sidewall in the wild, have pics?

If the brown sidewall tires is available in a 28, that would be a great tire for a fendered rig. The Black Chili compound is my favorite due to longer wear, but more importantly much better puncture resistance than tires like the veloflex masters or the compass offerings. The other conti offering with brown sidewalls also looks to have that compound, but probably in a slightly stiffer sidewall tire. The only flat I've ever had with a black chili tire was when riding through a construction zone and a whole mess of staples, nails, etc (due to bike lane ending with no warning).

Hmmph. I have 25mm Paselas on my '87 with Tri-color brakes and there is no problem. Just another data point.

The Victoria open Corsa (Vittoria Open Corsa SC Road Bike Tyre | Chain Reaction Cycles) seems to get better reviews than the Conti Classics. decisions decisions.
