I haven't run across many of these, much less this size. Can snag this one for about $50 or so. Thinkimg about a drop bar conversion. And run som fat rubber for the desert sand, to keep at work...

If it is your size and interests you as the basis for a cool project--- go for it! $50 for a frame that fits is a great price. Can't find a catalog scan for late '80s Schwinn MTBs, but the 1990 Impact looks like a nice bike.

There are so many $50 bikes out there that are not worth $5, I'd get this one and use it like you said. I have a very similar Raleigh.

It is neither rare, nor is there much interest. That said, it is a good, solid bike that will continue to run well during and after the coming, zombie apocalypse..

Appreciate the input. I hope to look at it this weekend. I am 6'3", so this should fit pretty good. I have a couple others I'm looking at too, but more money. Including a Trek 7000.

I have one, paid $35 for it and overhauled it. Rides kind of dull. I like my Trek and Miyata MTBs a whole lot better.

Actually looking at other bikes too. Just strange to see so many 22" MTBs show up at the same time.
