Calling all the usual suspects for Dec 26, Saturday

BF member Prowler will be in town over the Christmas holidays and we are planning a frostbite ride December 26, Saturday in the Concord River valley area, which is to say Boston metro-northwest, mostly though I might work out a more westerly route. A bunch of us, BF members and our neighbor Larry, did a post-Christmas ride last year (Dec 26) and a great time was had by all.

We will be on our tandem, of course.

C&V bike not required though very much appreciated!

Weather permitting, of course.

I'm 'training' for this now. Doing the distance is no worry but pushing back the cold is. Every fall I have to relearn my layering lessons and sort out what layers and which kit to wear in each temperature range. I was out Monday on the SRT at 44 deg, Thurs at 47 deg and today at 48 deg. 52 deg tomorrow. This trend is not hardening my blood but I'll be ready. I know that 45deg is warm for many of youse guys already and will be for us too soon enough. But for now it's still uncomfortable for the first 15 minutes. Soon enough 35 deg will be quite tolerable. May the circle be unbroken.

See you all soon. Now, which bike to bring.......

I'll say tentatively. Things are looking a wee bit complicated from a social perspective. When I know more I'll let you know.

I can only hope to still have a full head of hair by that time in my life. Looks like a good time.

Hey, it's one of the few things I can flaunt, and I love flaunting it around town, annoying those that need to be. My Spring hair cut even made the paper.

It would be great if you can join us. IIRC last year we did about 45 miles. Time of daylight can be a limiting factor so we'd best start early-ish. IIRC someone last year hadn't switch his computer's clock over to non-DST and so thought it was an hour later than it was.

I'm thinking of a more aggressive ride this year.

Can you hear me crying hear in NH? Sorry I can't make the ride. My daughter will be here from TN during a very short 3 day window--- and the church gobbles up one of those days!

I'm especially bummed, because after a long multi-month process that lasted the best part of the 2015 riding season, both of my Paramounts now wear tubular wheelsets once again. While these bikes are not back to original spec in all areas, this is a big game changer for the way they ride. My hat's off to @ScottRyder, @Ed., @top506 and @jimmuller as my New England inspiration to make the switch.

What's really funny is that when I decided to get a "decent" C&V bike 10 years ago (when I started on BF), and I ended up with a too large '66 Paramount frameset, I was scared of tubulars! This was so much the case that I had wheels built with 27" rims and I ran those thick heavy thorn proof inner tubes in those Paramount wheels. Subsequently the ride was awful!

I have to say I've learned quite a bit from my friends here on C&V as I make my 9999th post in my first 10 years as a member. Who knows what the next decade holds?

Pastor Bob, to ride a Paramount without tubulars tires is just plain wrong! Glad you made the switch over!

Gonna be in east Texas for Christmas visiting my step-daughter & her hubby. Have a hunch I'll be there every Christmas.

ScottRyder - FYI - CCRT, Went to ride it today & the parking lot in Dennis is torn out & sealed off. Was 60, sunny no wind, wow. Three WW II vintage aircraft flew over, distinctive growl caught my ear.

2 weeks out and Accuweather is saying 57deg F and sunny for the 26th. Waaa? Are the weather wogs smoking something or has El Ninio really shaken things up? I was out this afternoon doing a 14 quick miles on the '76 DL180 in shorts and a t-shirt. Awesome. Some of you may not realize this is NOT a normal December 14th in Philadelphia. I'm counting the days until we meet in Bedford.

I rode my end of the CCRT on Saturday, seemed to hover around 55 degrees out near the beach. We did 25 miles or so. And yea, those radial engines make a heart warming sound. Did you get an ID on them?

I get three vintage planes over my place in CT every now and then. I think they are out of Quonset Point. Wonder if they are the same ones? All I can say about them is they are big and loud!

Having done the airshow circuit for many years I can agree there's nothing like the sound of those big wheels turning over. When you exit a C-47 on a jump the starboard engine is only about 12 feet away and the prop blast is right in your face.
