Dude on the bike is in a serious sufferfest. Must be the hairnet tugging on his ear.

To me, nothing says "70's" like either one of those old corny green "Ecology" flags, or a bike with a black anodized first generation Dura Ace component group.

No one mentioned Kucharit clothing? Its was the only US company that made riding clothes. The quality was not even close to many of the European imports. I remember riding all the was down to Gardena (through South Central LA) jsut to see what was available in 1982. Oh, FYI, I was riding my Puch with Suntour VX, ofcourse

I'm not sure she started as early as 1972, but Emily K. was making cycling clothing in Santa Barbara, CA by '73.

Maybe you did not realize this, all none leather items will shrink, at least 10-20% when left in closet or boxed up for a time or more then 10 years. Sadly, I have to buy new clothing too. Hey, new shorts are pretty nice, they stretch lots.

If you really want one of those cranksets there was one in a coop near me a few days ago. Let me know how much you're willing to spend and I can check on it for you.

The chainring set should bolt up to TA Cyclotouriste or Stronglight 49D crankarms, but if you want to use the Lambert/Viscount crankarms I believe you'll also need the BB spindle. As I recall it uses a non-tapered or differently-tapered spindle from "normal" cotterless cranks.

Thanks Brent but I think I ought to wait until I've got the right bike to put it on.

Benotto cello tape was most popular in the early 80s. Not sure when it first came out. 70s were mostly cotton tape I think.
