Very nice bike. I'm sure Robbietunes & other Centurion experts will be along shortly to confirm, but I believe 27.2 is the standard seatpost size for Tange 2, which is the very nice tubeset your bike it made from.

Centurion Tange 1 frames of this vintage typically take a 27.0 seatpost, as stated in the catalogs.
Several posters have found that a 27.2 post will fit in their frames, other have not.

Beautiful bike, and the predecessor to the Ironman. I'd have to check on 27" wheels, as my Comp TA came as a frame and I used 700's on it.

Thank you so much for your inputs! I was very glad with the overall condition. However, I can't help but worry a bit with regards to the seat post. Should I get a 27.0mm instead? The current one looks to be a great fit but im quite concern moving forward.

If the seatpost works, I wouldn't change it. In my experience though 27.0 and 27.2 are not interchangeable.
This bike is beautiful; it looks like it walked out of the showroom yesterday and not yesteryear.

Im a 52cm rider but the comp ta surprisingly have a longer 21" top tube. Ill definitely change the stem.

I had a 1984 Tange 2 Centurion bike.
I would hate to make any comparison because mine was not Comp TA and the frame sizes significantly different. But my guess would be that it is smooth, even with 23s pumped to 100psi; maybe a lower pressure if your frame is indicative of your size.
Question for the Tange experts = How many versions of Tange 2 would there have been in 1984? 1? or 2? I'm talking thicknesses & butting lengths. They were all the same OD?, right? Nothing shaped? Maybe a sports/racing and a touring?

It's a Tange 2 frame. My Comp TA used a 27.0, as did my Turbo, which was the same year and Tange 1. Go figure. A previous post is correct, people have been putting 27.0's and 27.2's in those frames from the first Ironman onward...., including myself. During the years of the Comp TA, it was Tange 2, the Turbo was Tange 1

Militis (& OJ2)-- I forgot to say what a nice bike - dare I say a beautiful bike, in a workman-kinda-way.
My 84 Centurion was my only road bike from 1985-1997, and a lot of tough miles in the SantaCruz Mts + Monterey Bay cruzin.
edit: and a lot of Hwy 1 miles, mostly between Half Moon Bay to the north and Monterey to the south.

The 27" rim size seems odd to me on this bike, but could have been a mid-year change to 700c, that is if the previous year's bike (was there even an '83 Comp TA?) had 27" rims.
I can't see them regressing to 27" after 700c had been used!
The following year, 1985, the Comp TA model name was abandoned, supposedly because of trademark infringement from what I have read here.
The Elite RS model name took it's place in the lineup with the same friction-shifted 600 gruppo and Tange #2 tubeset including fork, still with box crown, and with narrow, gold, 700c rims. It also got the Sugino LP 144mm crankset with 42-52t rings.
This new (for '85) Elite RS had a few differences from the '84 Comp TA, but was a huge upgrade from the '84 bike that they had called Elite RS.
The '85 Turbo also wore 600 drivetrain kit, but it had the latest 600 SIS shifters and derailers and sat side by side in the showroom along the friction-shifted 600 Elite RS, and also had a Unicrown fork.
I'm not sure what happened wit the '86 model year, but eventually these top models got Ironman branding and Tange #1 tubing iir.
My large-framed 1985 Elite RS with Tange #2 tubing has a 27.0mm seatpost.
The largest post that fits and can be easily adjusted is the size you should use.
