A pump is probably more accessory than component.

How nervous were you the first time you used it?

I think we've got a C&V coffee table book (circa 80's) going here.

Let's see more of that Cinelli et al., @Stevensb.

The bass drum (Slingerland) originally belonged to my great grandfather who played in Big Bands in the 30s - 40s. The lady on the resonant head wore a bit less (nothing) in those days and the following, until my grandfather and his friends took one too many trips into the attic to check it out...thanks Papa.

Well, not all the Super Champion rims.

(These have since been polished and a couple are getting laced to some Hi-E hubs.)

Why do I like Campy Record? This, among other reasons.

the grease is rad too.

i gave an '81 mondia its first overhaul last year (or so the original owner told me it had never been serviced). it was a really nice bike i sold @Wildwood. maybe it was mostly garage queen. but when i overhauled the campy record hubs, i found the insides absolutely perfect and full of clean looking campy grease. after a couple hours overhauling the hubs and adding park grease, i thought, did i make these hubs better than they were when i started?

certainly it all looked better on the outside. not sure about the inside. with the impression i got from seeing the insides of those hubs after some 35 years, i should probably start using campy grease on my own bikes.

ps: great thread.

As a little drum aside... Some friends of mine had a practice studio with a wall full of stuff. Cases, guitars, empty amp cabs drums n stuff... one of the things piled on top of that stack of stuff was a HUGE kick drum. At least 27" but I'm sure it was larger, like almost cartoonishly large- I thought it was a prop or a toy or something- their drummer told me it was from a 1930s Big Band setup- it had palm trees painted on the head.

As another drum aside. I work with some guys who do Civil War re-enacting. One of the items that belonged to their "unit" was a decorative drum- like you'd see a drummer carrying in a Revolutionary/Civil War battle. They were getting insurance work or something done- and had their stuff appraised- it turns out that drum wasn't a prop, it was a real Civil War drum- they just always tossed it into their trailer left it sitting around the camp fires and treated it like a prop. After they found out what it was, they treated it with much more respect and were much more careful with it- that's when it got stolen.
