This was a garage sale find. Despite having nicer frames, this one is one of my favorites!

I looked at the Asian Serial guide and I can't make heads or tails out, the frame is probably just a no-name run of the mill mass-produced bike, it was repainted when i got it, but it had some OK components. eg. supermaxy

My serial starts with a Y. not sure of the second character could be a Zero or a "O" looks like YOD446Z

The only other notable details it that it has Suntour DOs

@T-Mar any guesses?

Nice looking SS.

Looks similar to a frame I am helping bring back at the LBS. It is badged a Western Flyer and has many similar features as yours. Not quite sure it has a DO hanger though. I will take a closer look at it while I cut the steel seat post out of it.

Thanks here are some over-all picts... its really a smooth ride. nice if you notice it but most people don't give it a second look... you need a bike like that in this town. lots of thieves...

I have a Panasonic mile112 (example: Bridgestone Bicycle Catalogue 1986 Bridgestone mile-112) that had a seized seat post. PB Blasted it... put the post into a bench vice and gave it hell.

The serial number format is consistent with a 1980 Yamaguchi manufactured frame (but not the Yamaguchi you're probaly thinking of). They contract manufactured for a number of brands including Hunter, Norco, Lotus and Sekai. It has brand dropouts with an integral derailleur hanger and they were just starting to trickle down into some upper entry level models around this time. Is the post diameter in hi-tensile range or CrMo range?

This Western F- has a Cro-mo sticker much like the Giant produced Schwinns used to carry in the early 80's somewhat heavy so would make a stable rider. Possible clue as to the manufacture?

Wow!!! I'm guessing a mid-hi level Sekai (lots of sekai's floating around the mid west)

The Seatpost is a 26.2 .... not sure how to determine hi-tensile range VS CrMo range with out labeling.

26.2mm is usually gaspipe, but my Raleigh Super Course with plain-gage 531 frame measures at 26.4mm, so possibly your frame is Cr-Mo.

@Seabass_First - I don't know the specific numbers either, but my understanding is that if the seat post is smaller, that implies thicker tubing (i.e. not as high quality). Thus, a larger seat post would imply thinner tubing & higher quality tubing. That's my understanding. I'm sure there are exceptions, etc.

That's a bit small for CrMo, unless your cinch slot is pinched at the top. The current post size would be correct for a Tange butted hi-tensile tubeset. I have an old Sekai catalog from the very late 1970s and this is the size of post that they spec'd on their models equipped with this tubeset.
