Non 'Eroica Riders: "Pfffffff" on the Rules!
I don't think I'd like a big organized ride, either modern, vintage, mixed, for a good cause, for a good brew, or otherwise. Besides, most of these rides (like 'Eroica) take place on Sunday mornings while I'm otherwise preoccupied!
I do however like getting together with a few to a few dozen folks and going for an "adventure" ride. Those are fun and they don't involve any rules, expectations, or have a year cut off date. Here in northern New England it's also easy to include plenty of dirt roads in the ride, even some off road paths, and many of our paved roads are so broken and frost heaved you'd swear you had somehow been transported to the "Hell of the North!"
But rules!?! Pfffffffff on rules! I just love to ride and while I have several 'Eroica qualified bikes, all of them would not qualify for at least this reason:
So, I ask, how much of a non-purest are you when it comes riding your C&V bikes? Let them rip and populate it with pictures. I have plenty more examples!

Not much, being an Ironman fan, even my favorites in OEM trim don't qualify. (OK, an '85 does, I think). I sold my last "qualifier" after L'Ombra. Rudi's Fothergill was too intimidating, gave me performance anxiety and the hives. Of course, it may have been the burrito.

Indexed 10 cog drivetrain aero levers, 24X28 wheels, clipless pedals and a total and complete aversion to any flavor of "Organized Ride."

I got a laugh out of the OT and title.
Me? I mix it up. Even the Colnago has "modern" Servizio Corse 3fers. Who cares? My '88 Cannondale Criterium beast has Vuelta Corsa Lite wheelset and Krylion Carbon tires. Eroica? I cant even say that correctly. Maybe I need to get out more, maybe a trip to the Alps, see the Tour, wear a cycling cap while running naked taking selfies next to a rider.
Nah.

I've got aero brake levers and BMX/platform pedals on my 1973 MKM. The levers were a mistake, but I can't find my old ones. I wish the pedals had been available in 1972, when I got my first 10-speed and quickly found I needed toe clips and straps. I love my black & white Five Ten shoes - they fit better than any other cycling shoe I've tried.

@RobbieTunes the same goes, without pictures you can't prove your Pffffffffffffffing on the rules!
@Bandera, well done!
@rhm, I've always wondered if one of your beautiful saddles would disqualify an 'Eroica rider? Although most of the frames would be just fine!
@Ex Pres! SPDs! SPDs! SPDs!

I have my Italvega that would defiantly qualify, but I'm not driving across country so I can ride it. Every other bike has clipless pedals and aero brake levers.

The Portland C&V group seem to be more interested in getting participation than any set of rules.
I did go on a recent "Gears" (non C&V) ride.
What a racket of clicking at each stop sign
But, I'm with you. Perhaps they should allow vintage Look pedals, but if they accept those, the sky's the limit of "similar" pedals.
And, why not? It is not that a pedal set can't be swapped in 30 seconds.
When did 700c Clinchers first appear on the road? It would make a lot more sense prohibiting riding 700c clincher wheels

Yes, I hope to make it to the ride in the spring. The timing of the last two didn't work for me personally, but I'm sure one will at some point. Something in the hills or on some dirt could be fun, too. It's all good. Fun rides in NJ, as well.

All poo poo-ing of the rules, expense, and organization required aside, every person I've ever heard talk about Eroica after doing it loved it.

I am with you on clipless pedals. I have found exactly one toe cage that works with my big ole size 13 feet, and I am not going to track down shoes I can use with clips. I suppose I could just use straps and forgo the cage, but I like my clipless, darn it! In other respects, my Raleigh Comp GS easily qualifies. I think if I were to ever do it, I would give CA a miss and just go to Italy. BikeSnobNYC went last year or the year before as part of the Brooks team and the pictures of the event were pretty darn amazing. Plus, what a place to go find some C&V stuff!!

Not putting down the strict interpretation for events with 'standards'.
But Rules...... we don't need no stinkin' Rules. (w/ apologies to Ch&Ch)
I've lived my life with flexible rules and it works for me.
Good thread PBinNH
I think we need a 50+ badge = No rules.
No wait, make that 65+ needs the badge, the young-uns (50+) still got kids at home, tough jobs and stuff like that with rules.
oooopps, wrong sub-Forum.
Ride what ya like.
edit: darn confusing days.

I have three bikes that would qualify for Eroica without any modifications. I have a couple others that are period-correct from the late 80s but would be disqualified for clipless pedals and aero brake levers. The only "non-purist" bike in my garage is a modernized KG86:
