Can you read the writing/numbers on the bottom bracket cups? I think the lockring side but not for sure, maybe both sides are labeled. Looks like either a Campagnolo or Ofmega crankset, so I'm getting an Italian maker vibe. Italian threads would pretty much assure that.

OK, I'll have to go check the writing on my Italian thread BB but I'm gonna say if it's a Gipiemme BB, it's Italian thread- I'm almost 99% on that.. someone else can surely confirm. Also, is there any writing on the dropouts- where the wheels slip in? Campagnolo, Gipiemme..etc? Both front and rear.

Mid 80's Italian is my guess judging by the headset age and components you mention. 6 speed Campagnolo Super or Nuovo Record equipped I'm assuming. Just gotta keep going through the Italian Gs.

7 speed cassette? That doesn't seem right with that crankset time period wise but the frame is definitely a 126mm rear axle for either 6 or 7 speed. Are those Campagnolo wheels? Are the derailleurs indexed (click shift) or friction shift (old style- no click)? Trying to date this thing and that's assuming the components are original to the bike. There is a possibility this could be late 80's.

The cassette is shimano, so thats that.. The wheels are ambrosio 19, and looks 90's to me
The derailleurs are friction, campy SR as far as i can tell.. With downtube shifters, campy victory

No worries..it's friction so damn near anything will work well. Probably Shimano hubs too. I'll stick with my Italian mid 80's guess. It was originally a 6 speed- 126mm rear.

Hmm, lots of new developments, since I was here. Full chrome tells us this was a higher end model, whoever the maker was. It seems to me, that you definitely want that black paint off, but that purple paint might hold clues, especially if there are any decals or stickers still there. I'd experiment a bit, to try to preserve the purple, if possible. Edit: You can probably try softening that black with plain water, in case it's water soluble. A soft scrubbing pad might work well, but might also take off the purple, so go slow, to find what works best.

Could have been spread to 130mm. That's my guess. Grandis used the same BB lug but the fork crown engraving doesn't match anything I've seen yet.

I dont think its possible, and probably not necessary, as there are purple paint on the group parts..

Yeah, I hear you. Unfortunately it's not very obvious.. meaning a well known builder. But extremely nice frame. Having second thoughts again since it just now occurred to me this has internal cable routing. That became more prevalent in the late 80's as did 130mm rear spacing. Are you as confused as I am now? Sorry I can't be more help. I'm just gonna step aside and wait for the experts now.

I'm very confused!.. I think it's someones project that got stowed away and forgotten about.. All parts are big brands but vary a lot in age as far as i can tell..
Now i just have to choose what a wanna do with it ..

Yep. It's hard to determine if the Campagnolo was stock or if the Shimano was. I don't know how early top tube internal routing goes back though. It's a mix of different time periods on components for sure. But then..so are most of my bikes.

Thanks for those better pix, i'm afraid they still don't nail any particular brand, but it's a nice frame and given that BB shell with Italian threading, probably Italian made. The shell might be a ROTO but still can't ID the forkcrown except to say the entire package looks like late '80s...what seatpost size and do the fork ends match the dropouts (are both GPM?). Pull the fork and check if it's stamped on the steerer (might have a "60" that matches the BB shell) and check if there are 5 ridges in the base of the steerer (Columbus SL or better).

The threading direction/size/pitch are different than "standard". I believe that the fixed up (drive side) of the bottom bracket is right hand threaded meaning you turn it to the right to tighten it.
Others will shed more light on this for you or you can look it up.

Spooned seat stay caps. That and the thru-tube routing on the TT and the lugset should be great clues... All chrome, too. Looks like a cool frame, glad it's too big for me

Gipiemme is the phonetic spelling for G (gi) P (pi) M (emme) in Italian...those are the initials of the the founders of this company, AFAIK.
I thought you had IDed the dropouts as GPM, but now that I re-read the posts I see that is still unknown, and I can't tell the brand from the one pic you have, but forged they are and if they and the forkends were branded it would help to confirm the fork's original to this frame.
27.0 seatpost (IF that's the correct size) indicates a Columbus SP frame, or at least the seat tube of SP, which makes sense in a 60cm Italian frame of this era.
We know the BB shell is Italian threading cause you say the cup is stamped "Gipiemme Specialle 24 x 36" which is both an Italian brand/model and the Italian threading specs. Yes both cups are RH threading so you unscrew BOTH cups counter-clockwise, i.e. conventional direction "lefty-loosey" as some folks say...if you don't have the tools to do this consult your local bike shop or Sheldon Brown.com. DON'T try to remove the fixed cup with an adjustable (Crescent) wrench!
