Took that down. Apologies all around. Too little sleep, too much on my mind, I took offense where there was none.

Lots of people in NYC of all different stripes. No need to generalize. Charles meant no harm, but it came out the wrong way.

Good looking bike ... keep up the wrenching .... Cheers

There are no hard feelings here, I simply answered with a measured response intended to stop any unpleasantness before it started. Regarding NYC and their legendary brashness, I thought that was a point of pride over there. But you're right, I shouldn't over-generalize.

Look, here's how it appears from my perspective: I've expressed my enthusiasm and fascination with this project, and asked people for help where I can't find the answers myself. Everyone here has been wonderful about helping me out. Charles' first post was characteristic of that same camaraderie. I guess I didn't expect or understand the humor in the second post; it truly looked to me like a troll attack. I've been on the receiving end of a few of those over the years; but I have also been misunderstood. If it was meant purely in jest, then I am the one who should apologize, and I gladly do so.

Nuff said?

I missed it the first time around, glad it was woken up. Excited to see the final product!

I like it, quick, easy, and very distinctive.

+1

And BTW, I didn't read any snarkiness into the second comment by Charles Wahl, just his awareness that he had posted to a thread that had no recent posts... (i'm of course speaking as a New Yorker, for whatever that's worth)

Raysport Light Roadster - Realized At Last

Waking this thread from it's slumber now, as my winter project is complete.

Just to review, I started with this:

- which after much sleuthing turned out to be a Raysport Turismo frame built of butted Reynolds 531, with Campy dropouts and some cool lug modifications.

And I ended up with this:

Weighing in at 24 lbs unladen, the shakedown revealed a light, smooth ride.

Configured for the Lake Pepin 3-speed Tour, it now weighs 34 lbs:

And the ride is still light and smooth for a roadster. Handling is superb.

Having more time than money, I ended up doing a painstaking rattle-can Rustoleum paint job:

Turned out better than I had any right to expect.

It's amazing what you can get in custom graphics off the interwebs:

The Brooks Cambium Comfort grips were a gamble, but they look like they belong there.

So far, the Sturmey Archer SRF-5 (w) rear hub is working well. Proper adjustment is critical, however:

I ended up readjusting the cable pull twice during twenty-some miles of shakedown riding. It should be good-to-go now.

And I guess that wraps everything up in a nice, old-school package. Can't wait for the Lake Pepin Tour!
