question about a Varsity with some sort of cable stop on downtube.

this is on my local craigslist. I am over Varsinentals for the most part, but looked at the picture of the downtube where there are some cable stop things. Did any varsitys have downtube shifter mounts? The pictures are not very good, cant see a clamp. Any ideas what these cable stops are? By the way, they want 75 bucks for this thing, so unless some one tells me its some super rare mutant Varsity wont be buying it.
Ive just never seen these before, so am curious.

From 1962 through '66 the Varsity had double downtube shifters (single for '60-'61). For '67 and later they changed to "Twin-Stik" stem shifters. At the time the shifters changed Schwinn offered a Twin-Stik conversion kit that converted the downtube shifter bosses to cable stops. That kit appears to have been installed on this bike. You can see more info on the kit here: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedi...hifter-kit-nos

Based on the decals and other parts that is probably a '64 through '66 model. Here's a spec. sheet for the '65 Varsity Tourist:

Thanks, I tried to research it some before I asked, but came up empty. Figured I could count on someone here. I might try to make an offer on it, because I would really love to have a Varsity with downtube shifters. But only if it looks nice under all that dirt!
