Another "what is it?"

This bike was in the queue for disassembly and scrapping at the co-op I help at, but I looked at the interesting frame and decided to save it and maybe turn it into something interesting. But I would like to know what the heck the brand/model it is. The riveted ID badge has been painted over and is unreadable. All I can use for a description is its barrel shaped. The frame has an interesting curve and some funky pointy dropouts.

Funky chainring style, too. What brand/model is the rear hub? Assuming it's original, that would help date it.
