Black Hoods or White?
I keep debating this and can't make up my mind. So, I figured I'd throw this out for opinions...
Do I keep the black hoods or if I can find some white ones would they look better. I think it would be a no brainer if the headset wasn't black but since it is it does sort of tie into the black hoods.
Opinions??

Personally, not a fan of white hoods. Seems like they're white for about 5 minutes, then perpetually dirty.

I like white hoods with white tape, otherwise black.

Yeah, but white hoods (with matching tape) look way sharper for that 5 minutes.

keep it as it is with the black hoods, but change the saddle to a black leather saddle and add a Klean Kanteen water bottle:
and add a crane suzu stem mounted brass bell just to add a touch of class:

Plus two. White hoods on that thing with the frame and pink bar tape.
Black hoods are for mere mortals. Aspire to greatness.

jamesdak, My bike with white hoods has a lot less going on visually with it's single color frame and fork and overall I wanted as few bright bits as possible, but when I retro'd it to down tube shifters, the only brake levers I had on hand were some Suntours with white hoods...I liked it. The hoods only match with the lettering and when I finally found some NOS 600 levers with white hoods, I installed them.
I think your bike will look great with either, but better in black.
Brad

Love the magenta water bottle idea. I've been trying to find either magenta cages or a paint that matches I can use on cages to get the match. Maybe white cages with the magenta bottles is the ticket...

The choice to go white is entirely yours, but you have the ability to make either work nicely. I love white hoods, just put some on a Rock Combo (not NOS, but nice condition). They clean up, like most things, and some talc powder helps prevent stickiness.
That at being said, I agree with your logic, the black hoods go nicely with the black stem, headset and seat post. Nice choice there, too. The Bontrager logo outlined in white transitions nicely to the white saddle. To go white you would need to swap those items out.
FWIW, you probably already know that you will be cleaning that bar tape. If only you could find some fuschia Benotto tape...

Although to be honest. While this is a fair weather bike it doesn't have to stay all clean and bright for me. Once the build up is done I'll capture it all nice looking with a full set of pics and then just maintain like I do the rest of my bikes while riding the heck out of it.
I'm riding white lizardskin tape on my other Giordana and it looks less than pristine now for sure.

Myself, I'd go with yellow, but if I had to choose between white and black.., definitely white. Dia-Compe had those ergo Super Compe white ones, too, which were nice.

I like white. Sadly, half the time they don't even stay clean through installation, as I'll forget to wash my hands before...
The black looks really good though -- don't think you can go wrong either way.

I'm over most of my 'white hoods and tape' obsession. Love the bottle match.
Black says = practical & let's GO. White = less so.

While both look good, I bet white would look amazing and really step up the 80's style.
I have no problem keeping white hoods looking great with Simple Green and a cloth. I do my black ones now too, cleaning my white hoods made me realize that they're filthy too.

Given the neon pink bar tape and accents, I'd actually go with grey. Seriously.

I vote black hoods. Even aside from the cleaning issue, the black hoods just go nicely with that bike.
