What's the cheapo fix for a C&V pedals that missing it's original dustcap?
I have a set of pedals on a Viscount Aerospace bicycle that I believe are original... but both of them are missing the "V" dustcaps. Even if I can't find replacements for these pedals, this isn't the first time I seen one pedal with cap and one pedal without, so, I wondered if there was some universal fix I hadn't seen applied to this issue. Has anyone devised a cheapsters work around for this? I believe the pedals have internal threading in the area.

MKS make replacement caps which might fit. They're aluminum so you can file off the letters to blend them better with the bike.

For a real cheap solution you can pic some 3/4" Round tubing plastic hole plugs for about 50 cents at the hardware store or off ebay or amazon by the dozen.
12 3 4" Round Tubing Plastic Hole Plug 75 inch End Cap Insert Steel Pipe | eBay
Also you can use the caps of other pedals or order nice generic alloy replacements for about $5.00

i ran into this recently when i lost a dustcap on my nice specialized track pedals on my '84 davidson. what a bummer. they're original to the bike. i looked in my bin and found an mks plastic cap that fit with a little sanding of the cap. it doesn't thread in, but i was able to push it in. and it has stayed.
then i lost the cap on the other pedal.
but then i saw an ad for a bike on craigs which read the owner had some nonpictured campy pedals also. i contacted him, and he sold them to me for $30. he was happy to have beer money, and i was ecstatic to have some nos looking campy chorus pedals (with clips and campy straps) for my davidson.
and today someone from craigs wants to buy my specialized pedals without original caps for $40.
winner winner winner.

Hey 3speedslow... do you know if the size and threading for pedal caps was semi-universal? I purchased a "used" mks cap for this issue on another set of pedals and couldn't get cap to go more than 2/3 of turn before the cap stopped threading into the pedal. Maybe my cap was bad, or possibly the pedal threads, or again, maybe the thread pitch or diameter was slightly different? I probably have those pedals, minus a cap, in a junk box somewhere (I believe I ended up replacing the pedals with lesser pedals).

I have used crank dust caps on pedals. The plastic press in type without a slot/hole/thread (Shimano) work the best. Sometimes I luck out and they are the correct size.

This is C&V. Surely we can come up with a way to do this with cork?

Hell, I was going to say "chewing gum, chewing gum wrapper, a paper clip, wooden stick matches, rubber band, hair pin, paper towel tube and duck tape.
Then I realized that's how to create a nuclear reactor.

The Viscount pedal dustcaps are press-fit, IIRC, so the threaded MKS caps wouldn't be much help unless you glue them in place or something. Maybe you could mold something from "Sugru" to work?

You could probably use the MKS press fit caps like these.

Ben's Cycle in Milwaukee has a bunch of different styles and for awhile I think they were keeping track ( a database) of which caps fit which pedals.
