Interesting De Bernardi MAX with all black components

So, picked this up a few weeks ago, bike was posted on the 'Are you looking for one of these' thread. PO had it set up with Campy Record/Chorus 8 speed, and thought it was from about '99. After a little digging around and dating the components, my guess is more like early 90's. At any rate, about the same time there was a thread about bikes with all black components, and I though this would look good in black stuff. Couldn't put together black DT shifters for indexed 10 speed and it came with a very nice silver headset, but otherwise it's pretty...black. Shimano RS21 wheel set (yep, bladed spokes and 20/24 spoke count), 5700 FD and RD, RS500 compact crankset, Tektro braking system, Profile Design adaptor slug with generic 100mm stem and shallow black drops. Took it out for a shakedown ride today between thunderstorms, and it's very nice. I'm sure it will be a little faster when I wear in the bearing seals a little.

This may just show up at the Dairyland Dare.

Beautiful bike,......only thing I'd change on it if it were mine, is the stem.....
Try as I might all these years to like them, they just seem to disrupt the lines on a C&V bike too much for me.......

Yeah, thought a lot about just using a black threaded stem, then looked at potential black handlebars with 25.4-26.4 clamp sections and went right back to the adaptor thing.

Nice, but I like shiny better. Mine is a 1998 if that helps with your dating. I notice the fork is different.

I originally had 10 speed (non indexed) down-tube shifters but have since changed them to 10 speed brifters. A good choice!

Beautiful. If you decide to use a threaded stem, the Nitto black Pearls are sweet. I had one on a bike that I sold, and I was tempted to keep the stem even tho it didn't fit any of my other bikes.

Thanks all for the kind words.

Bars are made by EIS, it's their S7 model.

OldAirhead, the paint scheme on your De Bernardi looks almost identical to mine, so perhaps it's a '99 after all. Looks like different forks, though.

Steve, could be a keeper. Things are getting crowded in The Secret Underground Bike Lab, but it's all stuff I want to ride.

Do have some things I'm selling- mainly frames and some parts- but they are either duplicates of what I already own or projects that have taken a different turn.

Here's a photo of my De Bernardi, which is made with Columbus SL tubing. Styling is similar to your Max frame but the color is a deep blue-green that changes depending on light conditions. It looks green in lower light and blue in bright light. The finish on mine is incredible, both the paint and chrome. I've had it nine years and ridden it more than 10,000 miles, much of that commuting, and the paint doesn't have a single chip and there is no rust in the chrome.
