I just picked up a Cilo - Can anyone help me identify it?

I picked this up yesterday. It just happens to be the same bike featured in this blog post from 2011:

The Climb: Cilo

Does anyone have an idea of the year? Shimano 600 makes me think early to mid 80's. It has Columbus Aelle tubing, although the ad says SL.

I see a serial number, but I cannot find where to reference this.

Anyone have any ideas?

date codes on components, if original.

Agree on '80s.

edit: found this - coincidence with components?

Agreed, those are remnants of an Aelle decal. Since it is being marketed as SL, it almost makes you wonder if the seller didn't purposely disfigure it, so it could be easily misrepresented? The components are Shimano New 600EX which were 1984-1987. However, the SIS version came out in 1986 and was immediately successful, so I doubt a non-SIS version would have been offered in 1987. The components are OEM and the model was simply called a Cilo Aelle and sold for $529 US in 1986. It was intended as a club racer and could be purchased with either Mavic G-40 clincher rims or optional Mavic Montherly Route tubulars, so you may to verify which it has.

T-Mar, thank you very much for the information.

I have seen some of your other posts. You know a ton of stuff.

You're correct about the Mavic G-40 rims.

I appreciate it!

Yes, T-Mar is the man!

I hope you enjoy your Cilo. I sure love my early 70s Cilo.

I haven't been able to hack their serial numbers. FWIW, my '72* Cilo Pacer has serial no. 70761 . (*I believe my Cilo is a '72 based on the hub locknut date code, though I'm not 100% sure of the model year.) I notice the serial in the "Budget" Bicycle Center ink above is serial no. 77927. So, it seems they were still using the same serial number format, but I can't parse in terms of year of manufacture. Those could simply be data points in a long sequential arc.

As you probably already know, those pedals take a proprietary clip. Not easy to find at a reasonable price, so you may consider other options while you keep your eyes out.

Thanks.

I am just going to find toe clips on Ebay. If I have to buy another set of pedals, then so be it.

Very nice bike, when you are searching for the proprietary clips, be sure to find some replacement dust caps.

yeah, that will be near impossible. without clips, the pedals are worth about $10, if that. (i can't sell mine in perfect shape.) it will be easier to find on ebay clips and pedals together for $30ish.

btw, as a sooner (and grunge fan), i love your user name. how 'bout that buddy hield named player of the year? hope he can make his way to my team, the clippers.
