650B Schwinn Voyageur Project

Just got this back today and will be building up over the next week or so.

I bought this frame recently at a local swap for $30 and had a framebuilder I know braze in new canti posts to fit the 650b wheels with modern brakes. He also got rid of the three top tube housing guides in favor of two housing stops, and spread the rear triangle to 130mm.

I'll be building it up with a mixed 9-sp drivetrain (bar-ends) and a TA cyclotouriste double. It will get powder coated soon, but I want to ride it first. I'm thinking something like the Bruce Gordon "Rust" color.

Nice conversion!

Contact Bruce Gordon hisself - he's still around.

Looks nice. I might suggest removing the pacenti decals as they don't quite look right with those tires. Black rims, tan sidewalks and black tires would look good.

Sweet, looks nice and cushy with good ground clearance. What size are the tires & any idea what year the frameset is?

88/89- the "emerald" years. 86 was more dark green, 87 was "imperial rose."

If you don't mind me asking, what did the frame work cost?

650b x 42 (Hetre EL) and I think it's '88. I checked when I got it but then I took the head badge off.

Let's just say I'm very fortunate and what I paid does not reflect the actual cost. I snuck in a little extra payment in the form of some beer.

OK, but any idea what this type of work would normally run? I'm curious about this too.

all the repair shops I've looked into have prices posted online. They seem to start around $50 for removing/replacing one set of canti bosses.

That frame seems like a great choice for a conversion, from my limited knowledge anyway.
How wide a tire will you be able to run 650B? How wide before the conversion?

Those Pacenti rims look great on it.

Are you going with a drop bar or upright?

I don't know, I think these came with 27 x 1-1/8 or 1/4. The 584x42 Hetres fit easily, and I'll stick with that for now because this is a parts bin build. Rock n Roads might fit too, but it will be close at the chainstays.

They'll look better once I take the stickers off! Drop bar, Nitto B132.

Awesome. Your builds are always spot on; can't wait to see it complete. I'd vote for de-stickering the rims, too, not that you asked.

I'm mostly +1 on taking the stickers off. Although, there is kind of a neat look when you also have Pacenti tires installed.

Thanks all. Will definitely post pictures of my progress. Still waiting on a few parts. Here's a pic of the powdercoat finish I'm leaning toward. From Bruce Gordon's site:
