Reck my 1986 Cannondale SR800 and myself in accidents (new helmet pic)

On Friday evening at Stoney creek toward this bridge is a no parking zone. A bunch of teenagers decided to park on narrow part of it were all bike rider go through.
I had my head down for a few seconds, by the time I look up it was too late.
Slam right into the rear window, my bike bounce alway. I was doing 20 mph on impact breaking the whole window.
Spend the night at the hospital running a bunch of test on me. Glad to be home and alive.
The bike isn't that badly damaged, just need a brand fork.

I hope you heal with no health problems. Sorry to read about your bike. Hope you can fix it also.

Are the the car owners charged with anything ? They should pay for medical and bike repair!

Selfie of the month!

Ouch, glad it wasn't even more serious than that. Any stitches? Did you have a helmet on?

Good thing you have many other bikes to ride in the meantime. Hope you heal fast, it is prime riding weather.

Since those teens were illegally parked.............

And for some reason I thought Dan Bianchi was Italian. lol

Oh, BTW, I prefer black bar tape on an all black Cannondale.

Wow, glad you're okay for the most part - your description of the accident made it sound like it could've been far worse. No broken bones I hope.

I hope you heal up fast and have no problems fixing the bike. I should think someone here might be able to help out with a new fork if you ask. Good luck

Ouch, that was some impact to bend a steel fork that far back. Glad you're healing up, and hope you have no lasting issues from it.,,,,BD

So glad you weren't injured much worse, it looks pretty painful as it is. Another amazed that you didn't get hurt much worse, from the looks of your forks it was a solid straight on knackered mess. should be some wrench time getting it back to riding shape, be sure you check over your entire frame for buckling , especially at the head tube, top tube and down tube. No sense in having another wreck from a failed tube parting.

Buckling, or more likely, cracks. Look at every joint of the frame and check very carefully for cracked or flaking paint.,,,,BD

Yowie! That had to hurt. I'm still healing up from the last one. Be patient and try not to ride with your head down.

Man that reminds me when I started riding 40 some years ago (yes I still ride now more than back then) I was flying down a steep road, a kid came out onto the street, tried to avoid him, lost control and hit the back of a car, my bike looked just as yours did after the accident, I rolled over the top of the car and landed on top of the car in front of it! Now here is the kicker, I got up like nothing happened with nothing more than a small black and blue on my thigh. People around me were stunned that I walked away from that, and...no helmet! God was with me that day.
Not to down play your accident, looks pretty nasty but we all know it could have been a lot worse. Hope you get better soon!

Heal quickly and definitely give your bike a thorough inspection prior to riding it again for safety's sake. As far as the teens being charged with a crime that would probably be impossible. However inquire with the local police department who wrote the accident report whether the teens were issued summones for parking illegally on a road etc... This would help for insurance purposes to cover you medical expenses and any possible litigation in the future.

Ouch, no fun to read of any crash.
My experience is that aluminum frames seem to absorb and show trauma differently than steel.
The issues may be harder to spot, like a headset that will not adjust after the new fork, an alteration of the front end geometry in this case that does not "show" in any one place, but the whole front triangle is now off, too steep, now the head tube and seat tube are no longer in plane. Bottom line, test, don't guess.

I should add that one cannot tell if a Cannondale from that era is straight or tweaked by how any one tube presents as straight or not. The heat treating left many s frame with very slightly distorted paths between the end points.

Wow! And I thought I had it bad with fracturing my lateral tibial plateau this morning as a result of MY accident. All I can say having to spend my 3rd summer in a row on crutches. BE PATIENT in your recovery. I am certain you have plenty of loved ones around to help you get thru this difficult and painful time. Of course even they will start to drive you NUTZ so again be patient.

In June of 2014 I got knocked off a ladder and crushed my left lower tibia/ankle. A couple of week later had plates and 12 screws put in to attempt to press the bone back together. After that proved unsuccessful had fusion surgery in May of 2015 and now broke my leg this morning. I am beginning my 3rd bout of rehab in 3 years and hopefully will not have to have surgery again.

You know it is INSANE being a cyclist when we are hurt or seriously injured the very FIRST concern we have is what kind of damage did we do to our bike. You focus on healing and I guarantee the rest will take care of itself. God willing!

yes i do have loving family that care for me and they want me to give cycling because it too dangerous.
i will take my time in healing and getting back on the saddle. lucky i have no broken bones, really could have been worst then it looks.
The helmet save my life that day, also there is a god that protected me. With all that glass breaking around lucky one did cut me right into the neck.
I was more worried about the bike more then myself that day, you right on the money@clubber

call a personal injury lawyer that specializes in representing cyclists and have a phone conversation to get professional advice. the initial phone consult shouldn't cost you anything. good luck & I hope you get well soon

A cautionary reply, please consider this.

Dan,
At this point, please remember what the late Tom Stormcrowe always warned us about discussing any accident, and resulting injuries and bicycle damage, in a post here. A good lawyer has people searching the web for anything you have ever written and will use it against you, should you choose to go to court with the teens that were blocking the roadway. Keeping details and such to yourself, and discussing the accident only with a lawyer will be for the best.

Just some food for thought, and a word to the wise.

Heal up completely, the bike gets repaired, eventually, and the rides will continue. Best wishes on your recovery.

Bill
