I'm guessing these holes are... uh... custom

These drop bars fit my size parameters, but I'm not so sure about those holes. These are Philippe Franco America bars. Would this be because the previous owner wanted internal routing? Should the holes make these bars a nonstarter?
Sorry for the poor pics - they are from the seller. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=527534http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=527535http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=527536 |
Yes I would not build a bike up with those bars.

Brutal work, shame on whoever is selling them, they ought to be sent for scrap.

I have a set of bars like that, hanging on the wall. I can't bring myself to throw away so I will eventually make deer head out of it or something like they do with the old saddles.
PO seems to have missed at the lever the first time around. I don't trust the ones I have and would surely not trust those. I put the Aero bars or whatever you call the ones with the flat section on the front and back of bar to hide cable for Aero brakes levers, as that was what mine came with. |
i wouldn't use these based only on appearance.

Ah well... They're inexpensive for a reason. I'm looking for Philippe bars in exactly that size, so I wondered if maybe there was some legitimate reason I'd missed, being inexperienced. Thanks for the sanity check, everyone...

You should be able to pick out his old cable housings, they are the ones with cuts at two points that went through to the inner cables. Those are plain nasty.

what size are you looking for, I think I have a pair of Phillippe might be 40cm and undrilled :)
I'd also be very wary of any "home-drilled" aero wannabe bars, but that said I DO have a pair of factory-punched (not drilled, these are OVAL holes) Cinelli TOP-64s that haven't failed...yet. But part of that is due to that I have not installed them on any bike, yet. YRMV |
The thought of my bars failing is too frightful to even consider... I take zero chances with some components.

I recently acquired a Puch Bergmeister that I intend to make a daily rider, and that one will get a new stem and bars from the get-go. |
Pass...quickly!
