Found Bike in my parents barn. Help me out.

Hi all,

I found this bike in my parents barn. I have spent some time looking online and was able to find the serial number, 3246. I know this is the day and year and I am assuming 1986, but that is about as far as I can get. I don't know anything about vintage bikes. There was a lot of talk about where it was built, international v. domestic. Please take a look at the pictures attached, any info is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Quick and dirty response: looks like a mid-high level 80's Schwinn. Big frame. A nice drive side picture of the bike would help. What do you want help on?

Looks to be a 86 Tempo in impulse blue these were built under contract by Panasonic in Japan for Schwinn. Very nice mid level bike these were Schwinns entry level racing model at the time.

My thought as well.

6 pictures and, no image of model name? Really? It's a really big frame which is both good & bad. Bad because it will take forever to find somebody that wants it. Good because they'll pay a little extra for it.

These pics look like it may not have a model name showing on the frame, but forged dropouts with axle adjuster screw holes plus the other component indicate a mid quality bike. Clean, lube, adjust and ride it a lot! Don

To the OP--did your parents have any information on the history of that bike? Maybe your dad rode it to college, it's worth asking because it may have some sentimental value you may cherish. Any idea how they acquired it? I've never had a bike suddenly appear in a storage area, so they should be able to help fill you in on its history.

Thank you, 86 Tempo was what I thought but wanted to ask some people that know what they are talking about. As for the history of the bike, it was my fathers and he gave it to my uncle. My uncle repainted it, passed away, and it has been in the barn ever since. I am just looking for something to ride. I'm not looking to sell, mid level quality is fine with me, I just think it would be cool to put this bike back on the road.

Thanks again!

In that first photo it looks as if the fork is bent at the steering tube. Just a bit to the back.

The '86 Tempo was dark blue, but the components look the same. My '87 Traveler was the color of the OP's bike.

I don't see that...
but these things can be hard to tell from photographs, especially photos taken from any angle other than straight on.

If you're at least 6' tall, this could be a very nice bike for you. I've got the '87 model, same size as yours, with the Impulse Blue/Pearl White paint scheme. Every time I ride it I say to myself "Why don't I ride this thing more often?"

Mine looks like that too, from a certain angle. Can't really tell if it's actually bent, though. If it is, it bent in a perfectly even way; it's one of my best hands-free riders.

The 3246 is a date code, not a serial number. It equates to equates to November 20, 1986, which is late enough in the year that it would definitely be a 1987 model.

I would say it is a 86 model the 87 model had 1st generation 105 components and aero brake levers.
