Greg LeMond Ventoux - Finally back on it

So, the 1989 Ventoux got lost in the shuffle for awhile there. Still not certain overall what I am going to do with this one but right now I've taken steps to make it as comfortable as I can for use on my rough roads.

Put the Vision Team 30 wheels on it with Conti GP4000S II 700 x 28 tires that measure at around 31 mounted.

Got the crappy Bontrager crankset off. It was being run with an incompatible Dura Ace BB and causing the wobble.

Swapped out the stem for a Cinelli 1A and then Cinelli Giro D'Italia 64 handlebar. Wrapped with soft cushy cork tape with Fizik bar gel underneath. Did a really bad job this time putting on the italian color finishing tape (homage to this Billato Bros built frame) but I was rushing to get it together so I could take a spin. Supposed to be my rest day but hey, gotta do it.

Oh and then the Brooks saddle went on too. It's about 1/2 forward of what I'm used to so it may not stay on, dang short rails!

Bike weighs 23 lbs and 7 oz as you see it.

I have to question have original things are. The paint is really good and so are the decals. Still the decals look suspect so I really don't know. But then it does have the TSDI sticker on the bottom is great shape too and the brifters look amazing. Curious as to what others think, original or reworked?

I should mention that is stills needs tuning. Brake cables are not correct for the wide wheels and the chain appears too short to me but I may be wrong.
And now some recent pics.

Look at that rich, shiny paint on the fork.

Finally, the rear wheel clearance, too little? Will only be used on pavement. The front has much more which is where I'd be really worried.

An interesting mix of steel/somewhat vintage, and more modern componentry on a nice looking frameset. Definitely different build, and it looks really nice, too. That gray colourway has a great understated look to it, an your choice of components sets it off quite well. those rims are something I haven't seen, unusual color there. Thanks for sharing it with us here.

I have about that much clearance on my modern bike with 27c tires. It's cloooose but has never rubbed the caliper.

Well after a century Saturday and a smoking fast ride on the Giordana Antares yesterday I had to keep this as a true rest day. But I did take it out for a couple of miles. Felt a little twitchy on the front end. Ran the tires at 77/87 psi F/R since they are around 31mm on these rims and with my weight of 180 lbs.

Fairly cushy but 6 miles is to short to really tell anything. Kept the speeds under 14 mph for a few miles. Then for some reason it took off on it's own quickly climbing above 31 mph and then cruising at 30 for the next two miles. Not sure what was going on because I was taking a rest day, LOL!!

Seriously though, it felt nice and solid. It still needs a proper tuneup and then I'll get it out for a real ride. Ran though loose gravel on the road a few times on purpose to see if anything would hang up on the tight rear end clearance, no issues.

That's a gorgeous ride. Well done.

Kinda surprised by the 23lb 7oz weigh in. I would have guessed this to be about 2 pounds lighter with all the fancy trimmings. Are Cromor frames a little heavier?

It's pretty much the same weight as my 56cm Cromor framed Antares. And there's nothing light about that wheelset or the Brooks saddle. Cromor does come in heavier than say a SLX frame.

Well, did a longer 23 mile ride on it and had issues with the Brooks Saddle position pushing me forward too much. Sorted out the tilt after the ride the other day and then just took it back out this morning for 50 miles. Bike felt great, no issues getting to and holding speed. Laid it over in some fast turns with no drama either. One this I did notice is that some of the big road hits sort of resonated throughout the bike more so than I'm used to with the Giordana bikes yet without feeling harsh if that makes sense. Ran the Conti tires at 73/83 today with no issues, pretty cush actually. And whether it's good positioning, comfy tape, the bar gel, a combination , or whatever, the hands felt great the whole trip. The hoods on these brifters are not that comfortable though. But man do they shift nice. 3 cog upshifts are crisp with a very light action of the brifters. I like it!!
