Topline road crankset - specs, iso? Spindle length?
Hi folks - So a friend just generously gave me his barely used Topline road crankset - he's going sram red and lightening up his already only 19lb steel Ritchey. Anyway, these spiders are very flat and I have no idea what size spindle to use, length, symmetrical or non. He can't remember. Though I've read elsewhere they are JIS, it seems to me from inserting both type spindles to where his spindle marks end, it looks very iso. My digital caliper agrees. Anyway, if anyone KNOWS the specs iso or jis and length, symm or assym, and can spare me some experimentation , my gratitude will be yours. Mike

I may be wrong. Just guessing. Manufactured under the Grafton name. On a mtn bike no less than 125mm/aroad bike; dunno. Google is our friend. I'll do some more digging.

Guess you'll have to measure chainline/depending on ur bb width. Report back so everybody gets the info

The Topline triple cranks I removed from my wife's '97 Erickson had a 45mm chainline with a 119mm Phil BB, not specifically JIS tapers.
I torque BB bolts to 30 ft-lb, and I'm of the "lightly grease the tapers" school.

Hmm. I tried a 109 iso - there's about 3mm space between the inner ring and the chainstay but that's with the crank just seated on the spindle enough for it not to fall off. I think it may be a bit short once I tighten it down. But even at 109, seems jis would put it out too far. It's A Serotta ti frame, btw. Possible the chainstays taper in more than the typical frame? We also may be talking about a different variant of the crank.

Results: 115 iso on Topline road cranks
For the record, I used a Suntour Microlite 115 iso I had - looks perfect as far as chainline and distance from inner ring to chainstay. I'll have to see if I get any rub when the frame really flexes, but it's a Serotta Legend, so it's pretty stiff down there. Will report back if it's too short. Only reason I hesitated to use a 112 or 113 jis is I could see that the original marks for the mounting were several mm past where a jis would go, and I know it was only set up once with the factory recc. type. Not that a JIS couldn't have worked. 113 jis probably would have put me in more or less the same place.
