Worst picture of a Miyata bicycle EVER

Trying to attach a picture to my posts...

Haven't posted a pic in a long time and struggling to do so... This is a very basic Miyata that I got from someone giving it away (I paid $5, just to keep the karma flow). I think it has frame damage...

I don't even get a picture of Miyata, just a DNS error.

As far as stem shifters go, they're not bad. You have to be into that sort of thing though. Fairly compact, Suntour, and shiny.

Circa 1974-1975, possibly a Miyata Racer or MX-E. if you ever dig it out for better pics and the S/N, I should be able to give you a positive ID.

No pictures, but when I rolled it into the shed this evening, I jotted down this number from the underside of the bottom bracket: C163316 (if I should add this to another thread for posterity, I will, just let me know). I had thought is was 1974 in year, "sports" category, model S-1, per the Miyata '74 catalog scan at the velo-pages. Let me know if you concur T-Mar (and thanks for the interest).

Are they the spring loaded type? If so they work great.

I meant no harm with my comment. It was an attempt to let you know that your picture was now visible.

Sorry if you took it that way.

I bought a Raleigh International in FL with a worse photo than that. I mailed the seller a USPS money order for full asking price and he held it for me for over a month.

The C-code dates to 1974 manufacturer and it's a low enough S/N that it should be a 1974 model, so an S-1 (aka Racer) is the prime candidate.

My first (two) Fuji's were orange '74/75 Special Tourers in all of their all-steel, stem-shifter glory. First one got stolen at 3 months (F9B18529) and replaced with F9B18546. Heck, even the crank chainguard looks the same as the '75 model! https://www.classicfuji.com/Tourer(Ro...1975_PageB.htm

When I first got into bikes- there was one of those at Goodwill- it had a Suntour Honor.

It was a cool bike- sad that I missed it.

Congratulations!

It's casual Bill; no offense taken. Though I started my biking adventures by having the stem shifters replaced to down-tube shifters on my very first "nice" ten speed, I have come to accept their rightful place in the world and history of bicycles. I could even see, in some instances, preferring them. Most of the C&V crowd may be accustom to down tube shifters, but for a noobie, they remove one key barrier from riding a vintage bicycle (the fear of taking their hands off the handlebars). And, if you think about it, the acceptance of the brifter, at least to me, points to the stem shifter being a humble ancestor of modern shifting preferences. But for those that stem shifters are not their thing, then that's copacetic too.
