Clearly, this bike is a medical doctor born in 1924.
Actually I just did a serial number search for Hercules and came up with nothing useful. Your best bet will be checking the components (hubs, brakes) and seeing if there's a date code or year stamped on them.

I'm pretty sure the previous post was a bit sarcastic. That number obviously does not mean the year - the bike is almost surely from the post-war era. What he was asking you to do is to look for numbers stamped on any of the components, such as the rear derailleur, where often there is an actual production year number.

@Marcelopaez: Sorry about the confusion. I was being funny.
And yes, look for numbers/letters on the other parts of the bike. They can probably tell us more.

The style of crank and head badge seem to indicate it is a pre-Raliegh bike from the 50's. There should be a simple 2 digit date code on the outside of the rear hub.

If the rear hub is a three speed hub, it is most likely a Sturmey Archer AW or the Hercules equivalent. If Sturmey Archer, it will have a date code such as 53 9 that translates to September 1953. If Hercules, the same date would be written "TYPE B 3"

Nothing there to suggest three speed. No shifter, no hole in axle for the tiny awesome chain, and no large drum to hold planetary gear setup.
