Old Peugeot mixte any info please

Hello this Peugeot Riviera mixte frame is my first Peugeot. It is heavier than my 1982 Carbolite 10 speed. Any info on metal alloy used? Was this a low end bike? It has Simplex derailleurs. These go for about $150 in London. Bought mine for $90. Thank you

You can look at Peugeot catalogs below. Try 1984-1987.
Home

Your wire basket weighs a lot, probably 2 kilos of steel there. Add the rear rack and the heavy duty tires........ Also, a mixte frame tends to weigh more due to its twin tube design.

Probably plain gauge 1020 steel, or an equivalent. Yes, it's a "low-end" bike.

Thanks for feedback. My back enjoys a break from hunching down riding drop handle bars so this comes in handy riding along the coast

Peugeot made bikes for many markets and that is one that we never got here in the States. Those Weinmann brakes are late '70s to early '80s vintage. I still have the little recessed L-wrench for centering them. Basic bike but if you like it and it works, knock yourself out. Looks like it has alloy rims, so that is a plus at that level.

Thanks Thumpism. I went thru buying and trying out vintage English bikes Raleigh Dawes & Hercules my favourite. But Peugeot are lighter and quicker. I'm stopping at 3 Peugeots :-)

Apparently several of exact same bike has come up for sale and the decal say it is made with Special Tube Carbolite and prices have skyrocketed overnight to $200 which I think is bit absurd. And for road racer type bikes they are even higher priced. Such is the nature living in London. If patient you can get old working Pugs for $100 but they get snatched up fast. Guess we are lucky in England as there are many Pugs around and growing old population that don't need them

Yes, it's an entry level model. Peugeot typically only offered the mixte style frames on the entry level models. The level is confirmed by the presence of steel, cottered cranks and a Simplex SX rear derailleur. I'd place it mid-1980s, in which case Carbolite 103 would be the most likely tubing. This was Peugeot's proprietary, lightweight, hi-tensile steel, though I suspect it is comparable to ANSI 1030.I'm not surprised that it's heavier than your Carbolite racer, given the carrier, rack, mudguards, steel crankset, mattress saddle, etc. The serial number should tell us the exact year.

Thanks much T Mar. I think there is a serial number. Do you have link so I can cross reference it. If not I am happy with mid 80s estimate. As I picked up a late 70s road/racer today will most likely sell this mixte as I will collect a PSV 10 speed in two weeks.
